Considering this is a monumental album for her career, it is kinda weird to have a lot of her fans kinda undervalued it? I see a lit of digs and jokes about it here, and on social media. Callinf the songs in it as "chops", among other things.

So what is your reason(s)? Is it because you are newer fans who did get to experience the OG era? Or is there something else?

Talk your truth! :flower:

It has no "bad" songs/chops, but it is (rightfully) front-loaded with career-defining hits, so the rest of the album seems almost like an afterthought

Honestly, I have many songs from this album on my account: Poker Face, Just Dance, LoveGame, Paparazzi, Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say), Beautiful, Dirty, Rich, Boys Boys Boys and Summerboy. It's not a perfect album, but I enjoy listening to it.

It very much feels like a debut album from a popstar trying to make it and using tactics I don't like to that effect.

- All the singles/potentials hits are at the beginning of the album

- There are a few album tracks that are on theme that really aren't great

- And then there are pre-Fame songs that were added there because she liked them I guess but they don't fit thematically or sonically, especially compared to most of the singles when she was working with RedOne etc

Overall it lacks a clear direction like she had in her following albums, and a lot of songs are not that good to be included there.

I feel like most people who dislike this album did not truly live through this amazing era first hand. I was lucky to be a full grown adult when she debuted and honestly as someone who lived through the GOD AWFUL 2000s pop music (yes most of it was actually awful I’m sorry) it was a breath of fresh air and spectacular.

It was a cute and fun album that came out when (almost) everything on the radio was ABSOLUTE ASS. lolol

Also: does anyone remember The Fame having a different tracklist that wasn't so front-loaded? I remember it changed at some point and I noticed all the singles were at the front of the album and it just didn't hit as hard.

I have such mixed feelings about The Fame because I'll honestly say it is the album I listen to least, but I would say out of any album of hers, the majority of songs I put on other playlists come from that album and not just the singles/hits (big fan of pretty much every song on that album, but its hard for me to listen to the entire album and so the songs have to be scattered and show up randomly). But ultimately I still think its a great album

I just came here to say i absolutely LOVE this album and its aesthetics! I discovered it in 2019 and is a no-skip album for me.

Part of the reason why i love it is because of the variety of sounds, and that late-2000s vibe that many call "outdated". I love it! It's just such a fun record!

I don't hate or dislike The Fame, it's a great first album, but in retrospective I think it doesn't showcase Gaga's musical potential in full (for obvious reasons). Overall I find her following albums (considering both her growth as an artist and my taste changing, since I was 12 when The Fame came out) far more interesting

The album can be split in 3 kinda equal parts. The previous songs she brought into her contract (Paparazzi, Summerboy, Beautiful Dirty Rich…), so the songs that got her signed, in a way the essence she brought in. The songs created with the Konvict side, the RedOne tracks (We know what they are). These songs were the genius and creative collaboration that made it happen, her defining hits. And lastly the Streamline side (Martin Kierszenbaum‘s songs, famously abandoned by her after the record and definitely the less impactful, more trendy and of-their-time songs).

Each of the sides is very distinct and they fulfilled a purpose, yet they were rather craftfully put together in the tracklist to not feel disjointed.
