southpaw773 4,365
“The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that President Donald Trump violated federal law when he unilaterally imposed sweeping tariffs across the globe, a striking loss for the White House on an issue that has been central to the president’s foreign policy and economic agenda.” -CNN https://www.cnn.com/2026/02/20/politics/supreme-court-tariffs Lmaooooooooooooo! Fatigay 21,211
I wish this gets as huge as it seems. He can't just get away with it. Will he be forced to pay back the companies? Can he appeal? Will he just ignore a ruling from the judicial branch? I'm glad the court ruled against him, but I truly wonder what will be the actual consequences (if there are any...) Lord Mayhem 3,428
Does that mean he has to void all those tariff contracts with every nation cuz he overstepped his authority to even make, propose, and implement them?

There’s no one to appeal to and I believe it’s pending as to whether or not businesses will be reimbursed, but it’s a possibility. I suppose he could ignore the judiciary, but there’s really no incentive. The tariffs are deeply unpopular and if Trump has folded on a huge portion of the ICE operations in MN (an issue he’s put far more stock in), I don’t see him dying on this hill. The fun part is, he has to die on this hill regardless 'cause the effects of the tariffs won't really settle in until this year and next year, even if they're all lifted immediately. He lost in court and STILL has to face the consequences of the economy he's blown up. And this idiot just paid himself $10 billion from the federal government Anyone who even makes excuses for Trump at this point has to be clinically brain dead. It's unclear, around $150 Billion was collected. He can't appeal, this is the top court (there's no one left to appeal to) He could ignore it, but he's more likely to just switch out what law he thinks give him the authority & try again. Emvee 8,829
And yet prices will probably not ever go down to pre-tariff levels. Just like COVID. They jump on opportunities to raise prices, but quietly make them the new norm.

A year ago I'd say it's a good sign for the direction the US is heading. Today I think it's the worst outcome, cause he will ignore it and undermine the legitimacy of the court as a whole. He is so tied to the concept of tariffs that his ego won't back down now, having repercussions for every other ruling that's in the pipeline. saving people, hunting things - the family business
