What I'll say is the offputting nature of the video fits the song's tone.

The ensemble was intriguing and almost bewitching at first, but I thought it ran its course in the last third.

I mean the video sucks, but you think it’s any lower effort than her sitting in front of in front of her MacBook drinking  Mountain Dew? To your original point about what happened to her visuals, nothing much really. Low effort/lo-fi has always been part of her brand since the start, since Lizzy Grant, and still very much is with her picsart singles covers, selfie promos, etc. They’re just more frequent and harkens back to her Lizzy Grant days.

I mean you're comparing her debut, before she was famous, to now where she has connections, money and a team

I know her first videos were low budget, the problem isn't the budget, there's just absolutely no substance to this video in the same way as her old ones

at least drinking mountain dew in a wig and shades has some sort of style and intention you can analyse
