Taylor Swift Is Critized, Even By Her Own Fans, For Her Silence On ICE

Social media users have been criticizing Taylor Swift for remaining silent about ICE as she promotes her new “Opalite” music video and additional vinyl variants tied to her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.

Swift’s marketing moves around new music often spark intense online reaction due to her enormous fanbase, affectionately dubbed "Swifties," but the latest push for “Opalite” and fresh vinyl variants coincided with criticism that high-profile entertainers should use their platforms to address government policies and domestic topics such as ICE.

One viral Threads post from @the_bibliophile_archives said: “Taylor releasing a new vinyl variant instead of speaking up about ICE is right on brand. Really gives ‘Cold as You’ a new meaning."

Their message, from February 5, has been liked more than 1,700 times.

Other Threads users urged Swift to speak out, with posts referencing her “Opalite” music video and ongoing album merchandise drops.

Swift has been promoting work from The Life of a Showgirl, which drew extensive attention in 2025 for record-breaking streaming and sales, according to prior reporting.

Another Threads user, @andrea.jaylee, weighed in on the perceived silence: "Taylor Swift, Unless your 'Opalite' music video is you holding up signs saying ‘**** ICE'…. IDGAF Sincerely, a Swiftie since I was 9.”

“The PR narrative that Taylor Swift isn’t speaking up on ICE because she just cares so much about keeping her fans safe p***** me off so much...It’s an incredibly nasty narrative that does not hold up to basic scrutiny," another Threads user, @perksofbeinghc, said. "Her fans who are POC, immigrants, or just generally willing to step up to protect their neighbors AREN’T safe right now...It implies that equally famous celebs like Ariana Grande who choose to speak up DON’T care about keeping their fans safe."

That silence frustrated many fans, especially on a Reddit thread titled: The longer Taylor is quiet about ICE while her peers speak out, the louder her silence becomes.

"As someone who stated she wanted to be vocally on the right side of history," the creator of the Reddit thread wrote. "It is even more glaring she has been quiet. Why is it she only talks about feminism when it relates to her and her female friends? We need to learn from American history."

Others quickly echoed the concern, questioning whether Swift's carefully built public image still matched her current actions during a moment of national tension.

One fan responded, "For someone who, in Miss Americana, was frustratedly crying saying she wanted to be on 'the right side of history' where is her voice now?"

A second wrote, "I've never heard silence quite this loud."

And a longer think-piece read, "I understand safety concerns for her and her team, but lots of people have to worry about that too. Let alone the people who are literally at risk of being forcibly taken off the streets! C'mon Taylor."

100%. And Gaga doing it proves how easy it really is. It's crazy how Taylor put out an album about how she likes to be cancelled but doesn't do anything daring.

Yeah nah, her fans love to lie to themselves

Her 40+ variants per album are not to please fans, they are pure greed from Taylor, to get more money and inflate her numbers

The pulling her music from streaming websites thing wasn't about small artists, she wanted to make full profit by SELLING the album, and streams didn't have so much impact on charts back then. Her putting her catalogue back on streaming services on Katy's release day was again just a shady move.

She only talked about politics for like 1 era when it was trendy, we all know she doesn't speak about anything unless it directly affects her negatively.

The easter eggs are not for fun, it's to get the fans to watch the videos multiple times and increase the views.
