I’m not one to be defensive of her work cause I think it’s stupid, but just in case it could make some people feel more connected to the performance…

I feel that it was like a natural evolution of this one:

The huge headpiece, Gaga not really moving but posing, the keyboard or whatever it’s called, the play with her shadow, the overall messiness… :kara:

To think that her debut was 18 years ago… :traumatica:

The Brit performance was the first thing I thought of! A underrated performance IMO, it’s very art focused and I have such a soft spot for it.

Both the Brits and the Grammys were tributes to McQueen and very timely because it’s coming up to the anniversary of his passing.

This is the exact performance I was thinking about right after Abra at the Grammys !

like hello this performance was a masterpiece and we need more of that actually. Imo both performances are at the perfect intersection between artistry, experimentation and high-end pop, this is the best gaga has to offer. Not everything has to be formulatic and choreographed.

it’s insane some of us feel like we should defend the Grammy performance because it was truly AMAZING and arguably one of her best EVER

Gaga was never really about bringing 50 dancers on stage or huge sets like that airport set for Sabrina

There’s a rawness element in Gaga performances which makes them so distinctive and unique and this is what Abra at the Grammy was giving just like that one for Telephone and many other spectacular performances from Gagz

That's because it stems from her true musical roots, from her being a fan of rock and metal bands who tend to have more toned down performances and stages. Sadly some of us feel like we should defend her Grammys performance because a lot of people on this site can't define music beyond 3 main pop girls and their maximalist styles*, which often are used to cover vocal and charisma defiencies.

* before someone comes for me: I'm well aware that Gaga did pretty maximalist things in the past with her shows, but she has matured so much over the years that she really elevated herself to a different league where less is more

My favorite Gaga performance from back in the day :firega:

And I loved her Grammy performance too. She’s just so special.

I've always said Gaga shines brightest when it's just her on stage with a mic :golfclap:

The set pieces they make are great, I love some good choreo, but whether it's a piano ballad, the Brits, walking the runway while singing Million Reasons, jamming to Enigma at TCB, or this performance of Abracadabra, THESE are the performances I always come back to :bradley:

And Engima at TCB proved this

Now that you reminded me I wish she brought up EMMA  Her keytar/piano collection needs to be displayed in a museum

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

When I first saw the performance, I was a little wtf because of all of the camera movements and the fact that you couldn't see the crowd's reaction at all and I think I got sucked away from the actual performance itself and the song.  And I wasn't sure how I felt about it.  But after I saw it a couple of more times, I became obsessed with it.

I still personally dont like the GRAMMY performance, this performance is much better; her vocals are smoother and the direction of the camera in this is much better. This is all personal opinion of course.

But this is for me a good example of a last minute performance working well. The other feels TOO simple for the GRAMMYs for me

jacs vs looser

The only one Pet peeve I had with the performance is that she decided to do Abracadabra: a song whose time already came and went a while ago. I mean, imagine the same performance but for Perfect Celebrity :nick:
