Can anyone explain why Mastercard was apparently okay but not this? That’s what’s confusing the $hit out of me!

Mastercard is her partnership for her own artisitc projects, not something guised with humanitarian message.

It feels more tone deaf and inappropriate.

She partnered with MasterCard to fund a wider audience to promote her song. It didn't go any deeper than that and it was really them sponsoring her.

This time, she's taking a check from Rocket Money to promote their brand while making some general and nonspecific statement about peace and love or whatever and covering the song of a man who was never afraid to name the villain and fight it with tolerance and kindness.

You'd be valid to side-eye the Abracadabra/MasterCard thing but this is a different kind of ick.

Or, you know, just sum up my point in one sentence lmao.

At this point I think I'm a little too jaded and ready to be critical to hear her out at all, even if she did start acting right my response would be "too little, too late".

When I think of Mr. Rogers, the first thing I see is when he invited a black man to sit with him with their feet in the same little pool at a time where pools across the nation were still segregated despite the laws just changing to desegregate. It seems small but that was major back then and a great example of how to tackle a horrible issue with a tangible example of peace and tolerance.

This stupid ad feels so negative by comparison.

Appropriating his message for a budgeting app during a football game.

Giving the classic "why don't we give peace a chance, let's sing a song" while people are being gunned down.

It's tone deaf at best and at worst, another sign of how far she's fallen that she really won't say anything, even platitudes, unless it's in exchange for a check.

Be for real.. She was always strategic about when to use her voice and how to use it to get the biggest reaction. Just because there were times where she screamed her views from the roof top, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t extremely calculated and timed for maximal impact.

Eh I guess agree to disagree. I think she used to say it a LOT so much so that I have a hard time believing it was all that calculated. I’m sure she also had some occasions like the VMAs where she went the extra mile but I feel like she was generally just saying it a lot back in the day

^ Yeah people do way too much. I see no problem with her doing this.

Also, it's really no surprise that Gaga isn't the exact same as as she was almost 20 years ago is it? People grow and change. That's life.

It feels like some people on here don't like anything about her these days. If that's the case just move on.

Sadly the people in this thread won't be back after she wrote and released more music and albums in 20 years (Mayhem Ball Speech)

I understand people want celebrities to use their platform, but I don’t think it’s fair to always ask “why not.”

Everyone has different circumstances. The world has problems every day. It’s like saving up for a holiday and being told you should donate the money and time to charity instead.

Lifestyle as well, we can’t judge a millionaire’s choices from our position, it is very out of touch with reality to us. But people from very different realities might not understand why we drive and spend money on fuel instead of walking for hours.

Yeah with Mastercard and the video it’s like…what message was it sending to take their money? Lol none whatsoever. It was a simple sponsorship for a simple, meaningless commercial. But this is specifically trying to pull on heart strings of someone actual pretty radical in his own right during a “hard time” to get people to like a company lol the former is simple business the latter is more cynical

I definitely see the cynicism angle, but I honestly feel like, if the angle is to make people think of Redfin, nothing about this promo seems to have anything to do with the brand and seemed to be focused on Gaga’s performance (but I could be eating my words once the finished product is out).

I never understood why fans were ever under the impression that Gaga was here to end capitalism? She's always been more for "the hustle" from the very beginning with various sponsorships. She's always been down to make a dollar. Her humanitarian focus has usually been on LGBTQ & homeless youth.

That was more like, "I'm not going to cater my music to the market instead of following my muse" etc.

It's been pretty well known she's socially a liberal but not at all to the left economically.

They are probably afraid to rick the boat cuz there's tons at stake here.

The Gaga we know was long gone. Post pandemic Gaga is now like Beyonce or Taylor Swift. We're not in 2016 anymore.
