Kanye West: “I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people”

the concept of recording multiple anti-Semitic albums, producing anti-Semitic music videos, and selling anti-Semitic merch and excusing it away as a bipolar episode is so ridiculous. also this wasn't just a few months that he was like this, it was years and a clear belief system he subscribed to

even if I gave him the benefit of the doubt, which he doesn't deserve, he's surrounded by people who helped produce this sh!t, celebrated it, and promoted it. were they all having episodes too?

I'll never not want anyone to get better and be healthy, but he caused so much pain and contributed so much to the uptick in anti-Semitic culture, so this "apology" he drops 4 days before a new album release is bullsh!t, and at the very least not enough.

As someone who works in mental health, I am not really sold on the idea that mental health can contribute to making you racist or a horrible person and inhumane. Mental health concerns do not give you an excuse to be a terrible person - and I consistently see folks with bipolar or BPD or SU issues taking accountability, not spewing hate (and not always blaming it on mental health by doing the actual work). Sure, you do see poor behavior or patterns at times, but not like Kanye or T***p

with people Kanye and Roseanne, I’d say follow the money and late stage capitalism trail than the mental health one. It is almost like excusing T***p because he’s a narcissist. Like what?

Honestly, I believe every single word he said. One of my best friends suffer from this mental disorder and she spent nearly two years dead ass thinking she was an international pop star (one that actually exists but won't say its name cause I wanna avoid bad jokes about it). I hope he finds balance and good people to be around of

He has advanced bipolar which is hard for your average person to deal with never mind a famous musician. I think he’s just lost his way sadly.

His old music was legit amazing.

i have BPD a a sometimes it makes me aggressive and confrontational and say and do thing soon a whim that I do not mean.

Didn't she already try that?

I feel like she's had a dozen cycles of "we love her aga- no, wait, no, nevermind. Well, actually, maybe this ti- oop nope, there she goes again" :rip:

I think every other week she says something outrageous or problematic then goes back on it. Like at this point it’s hard to keep up :fail:

I'm surprised by the reaction some of y'all have to this. It's good that he seems remorseful about what he's said and done, but one essay doesn't undo the years of damage he's caused—not just to the communities he's directly affected, but to an entire younger generation of boys who look up to people like him.

He can talk about his mental issues and bipolar disorder and how those things can be explanations for his behavior, but it always rubs me the wrong way when people try to use that as the rationale for their disgusting and repulsive actions. The vast majority of people who are bipolar aren't nazis and Hitler sympathizers.

This statement is quite literally the bare minimum he can do to right his wrongs, but it's going to take much, much, much more than this to make up for the sh*t he's done. Maybe I'm heartless, but I frankly don't really believe in second chances when it comes to stuff like this. This wasn't just a simple mistake. This was systemic and habitual behavior.

Exactly. It wasnt just a 1 time episode or Twitter rant. He stood 10 toes down on being pro Hitler...Nazi imagery in his visuals...and being extremely antisemitic on numerous occasions.

This would be the equivalent of Nicki saying she's pro-LGBT and anti-MAGA when she has a new album coming out soon...

Things like this are soooooo premeditated and intentional...

You can take medication for bipolar disorder

You can choose to educate yourself for free on Nazi and white supremacy history WW AND in America...go to a Holocaust museum...read Anne Frank...etc etc

Learn about slavery and racism and its impact on generational social inquealty

Kanye has the money, access, and platform to do all that and more...yet chose to perpetuate the harmful ideology for years alienating his fans and audiences globally essentially permanently damaging his career. No excuses. They are BOTH trash individuals and no amount of apologizes changes the damage done.

I’m sorry, this is kinda ridiculous, blaming your mental disorder for all the nazi behavior?! not a single mental illness can lead someone to act the way he did for so long

Also it’s so hard to believe someone so rich and privileged could get away of a car accident without the proper exams and medical assistance

I’m not really sure if this whole thing is genuine or a massive PR scheme to get him back in the spotlight

To those of you saying this is because of his new music I’d like to remind you that his releases have been messy af lately. They either get delayed (without saying so) a couple of times, or they don’t come out at all. I’m not defending him, but the subject matter and the sloppiness of his recent music has been alarming to even his fans. I don’t think this has to do with the album. Iirc he announced this album a while ago during his nazi rants on Twitter. I would not be surprised if it just gets scrapped, and if it does get released I’m not listening to it. I’m pretty sure the album was recorded and conceptualized during this…..period of his life.
I used to love his music, and Kanye is very nostalgic for me, but it’s been clear to his fans for years that’s something is wrong. We just watch and consume without “supporting”. I’ve chosen to not read the statement tbh, but I don’t think he’s okay, and I don’t think he could’ve recovered or healed in such a short time frame. As a fan, I need him to go away for a long time, and not until then will I be interested in what he has to say.
And to those of you comparing him to Azealia…don’t. Kanye is disturbed, and I genuinely don’t believe he even knows what he’s talking about in terms of “the Jews”. He’s just being an offensive ass for attention. Azealia on the other hand is very intelligent which is what hurts. She’s fully aware of the stupidity she’s spewing. I understand they’ve both dealt with hardships and, according to them, mental illness, but Azealia is a smart girl and she’s actively rage baiting whereas Kanye is just an idiot on the matter and publicly spiraling. Both are being malicious.

Mental health or not. You did too damn much, Mr. West. :saladga: Because he's trying to save face before an album release, it feels like a Jigglypuff doubleslap slap to the face. So no, he can kick rocks.angry GIF

I'm not getting any sleep tonight because I woke up to a beautiful life. I'm awake.

Severe mania doesn't care about being politically correct. It isn't like being drunk, people will and do say things that is absolutely against their usual belief system.

Do you feel him sir?

Honestly willing to give him the chance to make good on this sentiment.

I don't expect him to, but maybe he'll surprise us. People always deserve a chance to right their wrongs.

Same.

He messed up REALLY bad and it’s no surprise he had mental health issues, this has been going on for years. That text is long and I don’t think he wrote all of that by himself. If he did then it’s very impressive and sounds sincere. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to be able to make a change. I rarely listened to his music but he’s quite talented, truly wish him the best if he’s getting help now. His kids deserve to have a good father if he’s still in contact with them.
