Her attachment to him is whats holding her back imo. The only thing she has said was “I wouldn’t work with someone I think is an abuser” in response to a reporter on a red carpet. It was a poor attempt at a PR answer to a question she couldn’t dodge - but she in the past has liked tweets implying her and Kesha were both in similar legal contracts that limited what she could say. She has had public breakdowns on social media multiple times and been forced to delete and retract - even in regards to alluding to DLs camp. The most important bit is that he likely has very little if ever actually worked with her. Her ex Aaron Johnson was the one producing all her music and once they split there wasn’t a DL credit in sight. He’s been known to take credit for other producers in his camps work and it would appear that is the case - especially since many songs he was credited on Kim confirmed she and Aaron produced together in their home during COVID even. Not even getting into contracts and timelines. Everything she has said has always seemed like ways to give half truths to 1) not get in trouble 2) not completely lie 3) not directly disparage Kesha. Kesha’s case should have been an eye opener for how powerless in the dynamic of the music industry artists are - and how they’re forced to put on a happy face and defend the most despicable people above them. They’re used as shields because they can be legally forced to just to continue having a career. Keshas story is not unique in the industry - and especially of those that worked with DL. But what differed is she was the one that stood up and essentially threw her career away to fight for it. It’s sad, but the truth is - as long as he’s living. There will be few that will speak against him. He made Kesha an example so others fall into line. It’ll be in her contract that her label won’t allow her to release music, pay her producers for the rights etc etc until THEY are satisfied with the end product. Behind the scenes in music nowadays if you aren’t someone like Gaga, Beyoncé or Madonna for example who are lucky to have their own subsidiary labels so they have more control. You’re playing to your label. I once had a creative contract before where my management had to clear my creative endeavours to THEIR standard beforehand. However I could get out the contract if they didn’t offer me work within a certain period. Note: OFFER. I imagine it’ll be the same for a music contract, so as long as they keep offering her things such as sessions with producers, the chance to go to ceremonies etc she can’t break the contract.
