I don’t necessarily know if that was specifically referring to the sound, but definitely the darker tone. However, we know Gaga is ALWAYS making music, so there’s a high chance she did start writing songs that go down this route. I have been puzzled by the arrangements at Requiem since the show (I was fortunate enough to be in the room, and wouldn’t necessarily praise the show the way many people here have), and started to theorize. Could the show have been a “what if” scenario, imagining that Gaga had made that stark creative shift gone even darker/grungier? This would then allow Requiem to serve as a bridge between Mayhem proper and Act 2. Maybe Mayhem "part 2" isn't a new album after all. It could be a remix album.
