US Military is refusing to invade Greenland

Donald Trump has ordered his special forces commanders to draw up a plan for the invasion of Greenland - but is being resisted by senior military figures, The Mail on Sunday has learned.

Sources say that the policy 'hawks' around the US President, led by political adviser Stephen Miller, have been so emboldened by the success of the operation to capture Venezuela's leader Nicolas Maduro that they want to move quickly to seize the island before Russia or China makes a move.

British diplomats believe that Trump is also motivated by a desire to distract American voters from the performance of the US economy before the mid-term elections later this year, after which he could lose control of Congress to the Democrats.

But such a dramatic move would put him at odds with Sir Keir Starmer and would effectively lead to the collapse of Nato.

According to the sources, the President has asked the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to prepare the invasion plan, but it is being resisted by the joint chiefs of staff on the grounds that it would be illegal - and would not be supported by Congress.

'European officials fear that, for Trump, the window of opportunity before the mid-terms is closing in the summer, therefore action is expected sooner rather than later. The Nato summit on July 7 seems like the natural timing for a compromise deal'.

It concludes: 'The current concerns [about an invasion] are driven by the most extreme views coming from Stephen Miller. The UK's positioning will be key - whether it sticks closely with European allies or breaks ranks [to sanction Trump's approach].'

A diplomatic source said: 'The generals think Trump's Greenland plan is crazy and illegal. So they are trying to deflect him with other major military operations. They say it's like dealing with a five-year-old'.

Fully expect them to cave and fall in line after a few threats from the demented hospice patient they're calling a president.

On one hand, I'm glad the military is resisting this obvious dictator from what could be a serious wrong step towards WW3 and the dissolving of NATO or at the very least the weakening of it which would leave the Ukraine and the rest of Europe vulnerable to attack by Russia

On the other hand, we know that NOBODY says no to Trump when he sets his mind on doing something. This will only poke the bear and make him more emboldened to follow through which again...Will end the same way no matter what. He can easily fire these top officials and "carry on"...

This year will be so chaotic with his last desperate efforts to retain power as he forsees his inevitable impeachment and his political enemies overtaking him

I hope the military continues to stand by our constitution and never give into complying with this excuse of a human. He is clearly too stupid to understand anything, he doesn't even understand how his job or the government works.

I try to stay optimistic even while losing my mind and crying almost every day after reading the news... and I am optimistic that sometime soon enough will finally be enough and they will have him impeached and removed. I look forward to a day where this country has a sane government again and once that happens, the said government needs to re-assess priorities... education being the biggest one. There are too many people in this country who are uneducated and deserve the proper education to truly understand what is happening in the US, and importantly, the entire world. I want so badly to believe this level of ignorance and stupidity is not our "culture", but a side effect of how terribly we have been failed over many years. Ask a trump supporter to find Greenland on a map... hell, ask them to find the US on a map!

Congress really needs a bill clarifying that "war" is defined strictly as war approved by Congress. Military officers can't be dismissed by Trump unless we are at war but laws are ambiguous on what we consider war. A declaration of Congress should be required or we'll see it head to the Supreme Court, and we know how that will go.

Because military leaders know two things:

1) they swear an oath to the constitution, not the president

2) carrying out illegal orders leaves them legally vulnerable

I don't think they'll cave tbh.

Honestly, there needs to be a coordinated effort between Nato allies to remove Stephen Miller as a threat.

Y'all... Am I delusional? I don't see the US invading Greenland in any timeline?? NATO is still a thing, I don't understand why something like this would go through :awkney: Is it just me? I mean the advantage that US would get out of this would just be slammed down by trade deals going to **** with every other Western nation, no? :ororomunroe:

I'm not THAT informed but this just seem so incredibly farfetched :neyde:

Trump & Miller want it, but the US state apparatus isn't erroded enough yet for them to get their way.

It would need to happen before the completion of the republican primary season this year, because after May Trump loses a significant amount of power over the Congressional Republicans and they're already pushing back against him on foreign policy as it is.

Its far more likely he goes after Iran or Cuba.
