Despite not watching MTV in More than a decade this still hurts man especially as a millenial

MTV was where the legends were made up

streaming truly killed everything that made pop culture so fascinating

i mean Music videos are barely impactful anymore

I think this is just a reflection on how music videos, as an art form, are truly dying… streaming platforms should come up with a way to make MVs still valod in the industry, otherwise they will soon become obsolete

I'm a Gen Z so it wasn't that much my childhood. But does it mean that there are going to be no more VMAS ceremonies ?

In my peace era.

I’m surprised  we haven’t entered an era of where they add music videos to streaming services and have like exclusive versions that can only be seen for a price. Imagine if they released an exclusive version of say Bad Romance with unseen footage for an extra cost on Apple Music or Spotify

I think the issue is the style of consumption on streaming doesn't suit video formats. It's not built around active listening, it's built on passive listening so the % of people who would watch a video isn't high.

It's the same with the way Netflix and other execs are trying to force writers etc to make shows - where everything is narrated for the passive viewer who's actually cooking while the show plays etc.

I'd bet money on the regional ones disappearing over the next year or two.

I used to love scrolling through and watching all of the music channels when I was a kid, I discovered so much music (and music videos!) this way.
