There's a lot of really great art still being made it just doesn't hit the mainstream anymore. And why? Because your average person doesn't give a f.uck. The problem comes from both ends. The majority of people these days don't appreciate a really good film with amazing write, interesting perspectives, well written plot points, fleshed out characters, beautiful set design, cinematography etc. They just want to throw something on Netflix to have as background noise while they dual-screen and scroll TikTok and occasionally glance up at. And then that background garbage gets a tonne of views, so they make more of it. It's the self-fulfilling cycle But I watched Frankenstein a few nights ago and it was a really great film. I saw The Substance last year and it absolutely blew my mind. A few years ago I saw Everything Everywhere All At Once at the cinema and realised in that moment that it's still possible to see a film that is like nothing I've ever seen before. And there are tonnes of art house films that unfortunately don't even end up on streaming Artists are TRYING to make good art, but nobody wants to buy it. Society as a whole has become lazy and brainless. They don't want a sit down meal exploding with flavour, they want takeaways they can shovel in their mouth without looking while scrolling (*cough* looking at you Marvel *cough*) I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
gagzus 16,470
I think yes and no, if AI takes from OLD cinema projects more than modern ones it can make some good stuff BUT it’s the fact that AI is publicly accessible and the public shouldn’t get the input into AI that it has. I know of course you used Marvel as an example of bad stuff but WandaVision for instance is the best Marvel live action project so far (in my opinion) because you could tell Liz Olsen and Jac Schaffer believed in it going beyond a CGI fest. I found it’s message of grief and loss to be very touching actually. The problem is, people on projects give up and don’t think too much about their projects anymore. And even big time directors look down on the audience nowadays.

I'm just saying that most of what Marvel produces is the takeaways of the film industry. Mc Donalds has it's place, but if it's all we eat it eventually makes us sick and ruins our sense of taste. But again, it always comes back to the ones in charge. We know that Marvel specifically creates at the lowest budget possible, films literally everything in front of a greens screen, and severely underpays their CGI artists It's the studios who are cheaping out, OR spending hundreds of millions somehow and completely wasting it all (Stranger Things latest season for $400 million... how the f.uck?), and also the streaming sites that are throttling creativity. Actually I was recently really mad at Netflix because I missed the experience of seeing Frankenstein at the cinema, and when I asked the front desk worker he said Netflix were very strict about cinemas only playing the movie for select screenings for two weeks only.. because they want streams. Otherwise it would've been a huge box office success. But they're killing the cinema industry. It's all a bit up the sh.it right now I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
