Leonardo DiCaprio Rejects AI, Says It Can Never Be Art

Leonardo DiCaprio expressed his doubts regarding AI taking over Hollywood during an interview with Time magazine, which has named the Oscar winner its entertainer of the year. While DiCaprio “mourns the fact that talented and experienced people could lose their jobs” because of AI, as reported by Time, he also believes AI is incapable of having humanity and thus can’t be “authentically” considered art.

“It could be an enhancement tool for a young filmmaker to do something we’ve never seen before,” DiCaprio said of AI. “I think anything that is going to be authentically thought of as art has to come from the human being. Otherwise — haven’t you heard these songs that are mashups that are just absolutely brilliant and you go, ‘Oh my God, this is Michael Jackson doing the Weeknd,’ or ‘This is funk from the A Tribe Called Quest song “Bonita Applebum,” done in, you know, a sort of Al Green soul-song voice, and it’s brilliant.’ And you go, ‘Cool.’ But then it gets its 15 minutes of fame and it just dissipates into the ether of other internet junk. There’s no anchoring to it. There’s no humanity to it, as brilliant as it is.”

Many filmmakers in Hollywood have come out swinging against AI in recent weeks. Guillermo del Toro made headlines at the Gotham Awards for saying “**** AI.” Speaking to NPR a month prior, the Oscar winner said he’d rather die than have to use AI in his movies.

Hollywood stopped trying a long time ago. The fact that Gaga (THE Gaga) only has one original movie despite being a visionary is very telling. They are scared to release things they invent.

Actually, you could say the very same thing about her jazz career. She’s scared by people’s reactions. Like girl, you had Tony Bennett publicly supporting your every creation and you f*cking wrote “Folie À Deux”, trust yourself. You know you can do better than “Goody Goody”. It won’t be a big commercial success either way but ARTPOP was a long time ago, you’ll have the media on your side for your jazz inventions.

Cinema is slowly becoming a dying art form too. More and more people would rather watch TikToks cause it requires less time and concentration. Your chances to get a huge blockbuster movie are getting slimmer every day, so as Tony said, “stick with quality.” You may or may not have a hit, but you’ll have people’s hearts.

Look, EDM has been old fashioned for over ten years and you’ve decided to stick with quality: “Disease” underperformed and then “Abracadabra” became a hit, both being praised by the media and the public, reinforcing your status as an EDM legend. Cinema is no different.

a beautiful and impressive backdrop for shitty writing.

 

You can actually see the demise of the cinema with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, how the first movie, with all it's flaws, is well written, the cinematography is impressive, the camera work is amazing, it's like there is some good thinking behind every scene, every movement and dialogue. but the following movies loses it slowly, one by one and they all became one pile of poop.

I bet AI would've made it a Harley movie as a commentary to parasocial relationships with her feeling betrayed and disappointed and killing Arthur herself at the end to keep the idea going. We would've won so hard 

That's the only time I would've supported the use of AI, cause clearly the incompetent hoes who worked on the script and directed the movie couldn't handle it
