Sure, but I guess I’m just saying Beyoncé having $1B doesn’t arouse the same level ire in me that someone like Bezos or Musk hoarding infinitely more wealth does. I agree that billionaires should be taxed at an exponentially higher rate, I guess my analytical ass defaults to it being a systemic issue as opposed to being a moral failing (especially for people that I don’t feel as though amassed that wealth through particularly nefarious means).

“Beyoncé has become the scourge of the earth by becoming a billionaire” isn’t exactly proportionate lol.

But I said it with my whole chest :whitney:

You're not wrong though, and I view people like Beyoncé or Taylor as symptoms of a broken system, leeches who benefit from the pond being filthy, rather than the direct source of pollution or even entities that have the ability to clean the lake at all.

Still absolutely terrible people and their inhumanity disgusts and enrages me beyond belief, but they're not the problem.

Hence, they get mean words that they'll never read online while people who could clean the pond get the actual effort of me driving to call them sh*tbags to their faces and my votes or other civic activities being influenced by the desire to cut them down to size :flower:

I do think a lot of people do substitute performative outrage for political pragmatism and focusing energy on material change.

True :rip: couldn't be me though, I'm not a good liar. I wouldn't run my mouth if I wasn't out there, feet on the pavement, doing my tiny part to get something, anything, done.

Wow, what a surprise! I thought she belonged on that list a long time ago, and Jay-Z has been a billionaire since 2019! Gaga is so low compared to other female artists, which is another thing that surprises me. Taylor Swift and Rihanna are already billionaires. Madonna, Selena Gomez, and many others are twice as rich as Gaga. :wtfga:

I'm actually quite certain Gaga is near a billion if not there already! she has alot of success in multiple ventures that certainly accumulated her wealth to get to a billion, but her net worth hasn't been updated for like a decade now, which is probably for the better considering the current climate

God help us the day Gaga becomes a billionaire (and trust me it’s coming).

We must remember the difference between having a billion dollars in ASSETS versus actually HAVING a billion dollars (Elon for example HAS that money- Beyoncé is WORTH that there’s a difference)

Its wealth either way and its a lot of it

Regarding Gaga, i dont think i really care either way. A networth of $400M or $1B in principal is not that different either way. $1B is just a category or milestone, (one which its real value changes annually with inflation on top of that so theres really nothing special about it)

Id still think the same. The the system is totally fcked for allowing such disparity but I wont hate on specific individuals (like Gaga) who happened to succeed in this system especially if they didnt do anything super shady or imoral to get there.

U have to fix the tax code but that will be very difficult until Nations can agree on minimum tax rates to avoid this perpetual race to the bottom to attract investment

Idc if it's in assests or liquid it's unethical by nature. I hope she doesn't. And I hope if she does, she puts enough of it back into charities or medical research or something along those lines to lose her billionaire status. It's not a positive status symbol to have

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Eh, again, if literally one (1) of the wealthiest surrendered a fraction of their fortune, the overall quality of life for basically everyone would improve substantially. I get where you’re coming from, but I honestly think it’s probably more productive to go after the top 1/10th of 1% than it is to go after the underlings and I don’t really think it even makes sense to include Beyoncé in the same conversation as Musk, Zuckerberg, Bezos considering that she doesn’t even have a sliver of their wealth (which is a testament to how disgustingly wealthy they all are). I’d rather direct that vitriol towards the people more explicitly and explosively exploiting human labor on a significantly larger scale than go for the little fish.

Yeah that’s the thing is we’re kinda at that point now. It’s all numbers beyond our mental comprehension but the world is at such a level of personal wealth now that even 1 billion dollars is a far cry from those men. It’s horrifying.

Im actually surprised this is just coming now, for some reason I thought she already was for a while

She filed it recently but tbh signs all point to she’s been one for years and just hadn’t filed (the continued references to it in her songs, the big asset purchases and product lines, etc.). Her dad said she was in 2018 and I’d believe that. I think she’s been moving differently over the last 10ish years and so have other famous people around her. The energy at industry events shifted in a way that kinda happens when you’re the wealthiest musician in the world kinda like it has Taylor swift.
