Alxjcgn 1,261 Posted yesterday at 04:26 AM Share Posted yesterday at 04:26 AM (edited) Just finished watching the live show and AMAZING! One thing I thought of was the set resembling the apartment she has the breakdown in during the Marry the Night MV. I wonder if there is at all any correlation but this time it is a more in depth look into the music in her head. For me, I love the Harlequin album because the music feels like being on the edge of a breakdown, and the live performance really gives the same energy! Edit: Also the haircut is very similar except it just isnt dyed blue! Edited yesterday at 04:32 AM by Alxjcgn 2
palma 8,614 Posted yesterday at 07:09 AM Share Posted yesterday at 07:09 AM (edited) I think both are inspired by her Rivington St. apartment no? Edited yesterday at 07:09 AM by palma Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

PSYCHOSHTICK 2,950 Posted yesterday at 09:05 AM Share Posted yesterday at 09:05 AM I think the Harlequin character she built around the album (separate from the film version) is very much rooted in mental health. There’s an obvious nod to the original Batman character, but it feels like she’s reappropriated that archetype to reflect some of her own darkest periods. That’s probably why the parallels feel so strong. From an art direction perspective, the live show feels like a direct continuation of the album cover shoot. To me the performance is as if she’s alone in that apartment from the shoot, imagining the band into existence and completely losing herself in that inner world, because that’s where she feels safest and happiest. That said, I don’t actually think her old NYC apartment is tied only to trauma. If anything, she’s spoken about it as a place full of happy memories. So while Marry the Night famously used that apartment as the site of a breakdown, and this show clearly echoes that visual language, I don’t think they’re meant to depict the same moment or even the same emotional state. It feels more like she’s revisiting a familiar setting, not to repeat the past, but to deepen it. Same type of space, different psychological chapter.
jackweller 449 Posted yesterday at 12:31 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:31 PM (edited) Had exactly the same thought particularly the close up on her between Happy Mistake and That’s Life. Reminded me of the close ups from hospital bed in MTN MV Edited yesterday at 12:36 PM by jackweller
