"All my hits I made in the process of of them blowing up because I don't finish songs. I will post the chorus online. I'm making something that I am really happy with and then seeing if if people want it now or later. Being able to to AB test things music with people. If I like the response, I'll finish it and drop it."

I can't decide if he's cute or if he looks like a Tim Burton sketch

Definitely both. Depending on the angle I’m either turned on or scared.

Weird way to approach music but: at least he wrote 12 to 12 organically out of pure passion which I think is his best song. Also at least he writes his OWN songs too.

i kinda like the approach. obviously it's kind of a capitalist logic, but let's leave that aside. I find it reasonable that as an artist you want to create music that has an impact on your listeners.

He’s not an artist, he’s a commodity

So he makes music based on public validation.

He lacks all artistic integrity and will fade even quicker into irrelevance

oh he did? that'd explain why it's the only song from him so far that I really liked and not just "oh ok, this one is fine"

well it does kind of make sense, however I think this kind of approach partially takes away the artism and creative expression, and (I think most importantly) authenticity, and puts the "product" in the first place, as if "who cares that it might be the best thing I've ever created, if it doesn't sell well - it's not worth it"

Also what exactly is impact? Is it when you create a deeply personal record that moves people and connects with them, and is also a songwriting masterpiece... or when your song goes #1 for several weeks? Obviously you can have both if you know how to do it, but can you really when you care the most about the response? (especially when the masses are known for being a bit shallow)

Spoiler

Like imagine if Gaga didn't finish ARTPOP just because people (at the time) didn't vibe with it as much as they did with The Fame
