It may sound like a weird scenario, yes, but I can get why he chose to perform that himself. I don't think he was getting some kind of lurid sexual thrill choking her. The car crash thing really sucks though, and I'm glad he regrets it so deeply. Poor Uma. I understand that because of the lighting differences when they tested the route vs. when they filmed her take, they drove the opposite direction, and it caused an unexpected crash.
