It has to be ARTPOP. More people love it now than when it was released. And hearing Gaga’s raw emotion, which goes into all her albums except Chromatica, gives it a sense of timelessness.

Chromatica had more positive reception when it came out, but now gets called out more (rightfully so) for being formulaic, boring, and sterile of Gaga’s usual obvious presence and emotion. Hair Body Face feels more like a Gaga song than half of this album.

I still think Chromatica clears ARTPOP tho in terms of lyricism (more personal lyrics) and vocals.

I don’t think anything from ARTPOP can touch Replay or 911…

I never really understood the glazing on Chromatica's lyrics. On every other album, especially ARTPOP, when she wanted to convey an emotion, she'd make you feel that emotion.

Like, if she wanted to express regret or sadness, you'd feel it from the music. Her tone, contextually within the words without being bluntly stated. But on Chromatica? She just says "I'm sad" when she wants to convey sadness :rip: and I guess I get it 'cause the tone set by the music itself is nearly identical for every song so she HAS to plainly state the emotion on each track, the music is literally incapable of conveying the mood 'cause, as @Ladle Ghoulash would put it, the album sounds like it fell right out of Garage Band.

Anyway, I think it's her weakest album, lyrically speaking.

Also, Swine alone clears both Replay and 911 easy :music:

ARTPOP sounds more like a product of it's time but it's lowkey a classic now where as Chromatica sounds as sterile and meh as it always has

Chromatica is the better album in most ways but everything about and surrounding ARTPOP has led it to cult status and Chromatica will never achieve that.

I think they could both take qualities from each other, perhaps the most opposite of Gaga's albums.

ARTPOP is better despite having 3 tracks I never return to as they are intended (jewels and drugs which I exchanged for Brooklyn nights and DWUW which I replaced with the Xtina version + Aura with the demo vocals), but Chromatica.. basically most the album for me are fan edits that give some life to the tracks,  cause the originals are so lifeless in terms of production.

I disagree, especially because of the lyrics. I appreciate how raw and honest they are, but many of them are quite bad to me

I mean you can definitely pull out cheesy/corny/bad lyrics from Mayhem tbh.

What does "aging" even mean anymore when it comes to music.

Sounds and styles come and go and then back again due to Tiktok and meme culture.

‘Aging’ is like how the album feels to me now compared to when it first came out — whether it hits harder, weaker, or just differently with time. It’s purely my personal perception, not some universal rule.

Also on ARTPOP Gaga plays with vocal colors in a way she doesn’t on Chromatica. She’s soft, aggressive, sensual, playful — it’s a whole palette.

On Chromatica (and sorry for saying this), some tracks actually end up annoying to me. Fun Tonight, Free Woman, Plastic Doll, 1000 Doves… they’re so vocally upbeat that I literally get a headache from how much she’s pushing and almost screaming. That’s why I love the cadence on Babylon or the robotic softness of 911. In that sense, ARTPOP is just on a completely different — and superior — level.

ARTPOP was and still is my favorite album

Chronatica, having it's highs, was the only album I was disappointed with on my first listen. And I only revisit a few of the songs.

I've been getting messages from my deep waters

It’s disappointing to see Chromatica’s reception flip throughout the years. It’s one of my favorite of Gaga’s and is one of her more successfully cohesive projects sonically and thematically, imo 😝. I think fans will appreciate it and come around to it again in a few years.
