FAA announces flight reductions due to government shutdown

Airlines rushed to provide travelers updates after the Federal Aviation Administration said it would reduce flights across 40 airports as the longest government shutdown in history continues to drag on.

Many major airlines said they would waive cancellation fees for even their most basic tickets, which often come with penalties for changes.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy previously said he would reduce flight capacityby roughly 10%, affecting 3,500 to 4,000 flights daily.

The FAA has not yet announced which "high traffic" airports would be affected.

These are the airports that are expected to be impacted, based on preliminary information before the agency meets with airlines to finalize cuts, CNBC's Phil LeBeau reported. The preliminary list includes some of the country's largest airports and major international hubs in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York City.

Polls consistently show more people blaming Trump and Republicans for the shutdown. 

If this ends with ACA subsidies being extended Dems can run on “We saved your healthcare premiums from skyrocketing” next year, which judging by Tuesday’s election results, they are on track to win back the House if voters remain this passionate about voting against Republicans

On the meta there is. It makes them believe in their own agency again in a time where so many people have been apathetic towards a senil fascistic dictator. I doubt they'll get universal health care like any developed country on this world with comparable funds has, but if the Harris campaign has shown one thing, then that moral, hope and energy goes a long way and they'll need it if they wanna win the mid terms.

Yes, but the Midterms aren't for 12 months - and those elected in them won't actually take office until 2027. 

In the mean time, the Republicans are running down the session into January which will kill a lot of things they don't want to pass/continue to cause trouble like the Epstein motions. And most importantly, it is the goal of this administration to destroy the federal government. In particular, they want to destroy the Education dept and a lot of regulatory bodies - the shutdown achieves that in a way that actively prevents the courts (even if they had power) from intervening.

This is why I say the Democrats can't win - because quite frankly, the Republicans are not going to come back around on the healthcare premiums. Trump is actively advocating for them to use the nuclear option - which I think they will do so near to the end of the current session. 
And even if this carries the Democrats into a major Blue wave in 2026's midterms. By that point, the damage will have been done and it will take way more than just a single 2 year term ahead of the 2028 elections to fix things.
There is no way for them to achieve a large enough win in 2026 to make any major assault on the Trump admin because they'd need to defend all 13 seats in the senate up for reelection and pick up 20 additional seats across the 22 defended by the Republicans to be able to actually impeach and remove Trump/Vance/Trump appointees. 
They'd also need to pick up 290 seats in the House on top of the 67 in the Senate to override any presidential veto by Trump. Because you can guarantee he'd veto any budget the Dems put up where they hadn't compromised with the Republicans.

So where as pretty much every other country in the world will continue on with day to day spending etc even without an approved budget (although lots of other countries typically end up having to go to an early election) - in the US, the federal government ceases to function without an approved budget and goes into shutdown. 

Because of the way the Constitution sets out the powers of the federal level of US politics and the Antideficiency Act of 1870, the government (aka the White House) cannot make any payment or enter into contract that go beyond what has been previously authorised by Congress (the House & the Senate). A shutdown occurs as a result of this when the Government reaches the end of the fiscal period set out in the last budget/temporary budget. 

There's 12 annual appropriations bills that go through Congress, at the moment, we're in a full shutdown because none of these appropriations have been passed.

Yes, but maybe I’m just too done with this country and whatever damage has been done/they will do will take more than one administration to fix
