Was The Dead Dance a Mistake?

#11 on pop, and over 100M in streams added to mayhem. Absolutely not a mistake, a bop, and a cute lil dark pop dance song.

I don't know about a mistake but I don't think I've returned to it one time since the first listen.

Anyone who thinks it was a mistake commercially had unrealistic expectations to begin with.

Anyone who thinks it was a mistake musically, well I kinda get it. I do think it’s the weakest song on Mayhem, though it did grow on me.

The fact that some of y’all don’t see the vision for the genre switch between the verses and the chorus…

It's fine as a cute song for Wednesday. But to pause the Mayhem era singles and putting all eggs into this basket was a huge misstep. GoE, HBDYWM or VIY should have been summer singles while Dead dance could have been its own little droplet for Wednesday. Or better yet, just attach Zombieboy to Wednesday.

Gaga also put all her eggs into the jfad basket with Disease so it looks like she didn't learn her lesson.

And with rumors of a new song for DWP2 next year.... Oh boy

Despite what fans say, this era hasn't really been "paused" or "halted".

I think promoting "Abracadabra" for the longrun was the right idea. Had they moved onto quickly to a different single then I don't think Abra would be where it is now, stats wise.

Some countries still have HBDUWM as a radio single actually, including my country.

Its been quite non-stop with Coachella, Copacabana, Singapore, TUDUM show, vmas interviews, podcasts, the actual tour? TOTAL MAYHEM etc

I just hate that THIS was the song she thought should be her Halloween song. She has a history of making spookier sounding songs that weren’t for Halloween. She could’ve locked in and made something more original and insane. Instead we got a Thriller rehash.

Religion is a product to sell.

Where is the similarity with Thriller, other than they both have E in the title :neyde:

It wasn’t a mistake since the song slaps, but I think it was marketed a bit too obviously for TikTok, which didn’t really work. If you want a hit on that platform, it has to happen organically, not feel forced. And Gaga isn’t 20 anymore, so the new gen probably found it a bit cringe sadly.

Spooky 80s dance pop track that leans into a horror aesthetic in a campy way
