I'm confused. Didn't the scalpers already receive their money from reselling the tickets? How does cancelling the tickets (now owned by fans/end user) addressing scalping?

Even if Ticketmaster got refunded the payments from the scalpers, don't the scalpers benefit from the small profit they made from the resale?

Genuinely out of the loop here.

Sucks for the fans but if everyone did this the demand for resell tickets would vanish and the scalpers would also. Unfortunately people will not draw the line on their own and continue to pay ridiculous prices bc of fomo. I really wanna see they mayhem ball but im not paying 500$ for an okayish seat nor am i paying 250 to sit all the way in the back.

Here’s what I don’t understand, allll of these artists have their own .com or webstore - how hard could it really be to generate codes FIRST to the email addresses that have used the artist’s direct-to-consumer store?

So if the tickets were sold through a third party website like StubHub, if the ticket is voided, the buyer gets their money back. So this is effective in the sense that the scalpers likely lose the money they made, it’s just ineffective in the sense that the fans who bought the tickets from the scalpers might not get their seats back once the tickets go back on sale.

If it's not unique code, that's attached to your ticketmaster account, it can be shared online. And in the and scalpers will get ahold of it too.

Wish there were a better way around scalpers.

Honestly in all of this my question is, how do so many scalpers get to the presale codes? Since that's kinda when I feel like a lot of the initial scalping occurs? Do fans share them online for those who do not preorder or sign up for presale? Maybe the best first step would be to really make unique presale codes for those who preorder physicals since it's usually the most hardcore fans who buy the albums that way and make it a point to not share codes.

Idk i think there needs to be harsher presale checkups, cause getting tickets has become such a nightmare. Like what do you mean theres a virtual line of thousand of people?! A little mini quiz for hardcore fans or something would be nice to weed out the fakes and make the wait more fun? :p

Thou at the end of the day, canceling tickets this way is a bit off for those who bit the bullet to buy them from scalpers, but I guess just deducting away the extra from the original prize would have been too much work.

Not all presales will provide a code, you just need an account and sign in to register for most of them and surely them scalpers know all about it.

Sure, it depends on what type of presale but I don’t have Mastercard and got a link for the artist presale back then, no code at all.

If you read the fine print on a lot of those, you can skip the pre-order and just sign up to the mailing list.
