An ad showing Ronald Reagan opposition to tarrifs has pissed off Donald Trump who has in turn cancelled trade talks with Canada

 

The ads were mostly played by the Province of Ontario not the Federal Government for $75M

 

Primier of Ontario Doug Ford has made it no secret he wants a hard approach, threatning to turn off electricity to the US, taking American liquor of shelves and and going on major tours in US media and being the most outspoken politician in hitting back

I feel Doug Ford need to take a chill pill and stop. Let the Prime Minister try his strategy of calm diplomacy and if that policy is given up on or abandoned then let the Nation do it as one.

 

Hes interfearing and getting in the way of what Carney is trying to do and he may have just ruined the little dialogue progress there was going

Im not sure which strategy is best, elbows up or concessions... usually id say diplomacy but Trump is so unpredictable and its always walking on eggshels with him

 

But regardless of strategy chosen, consistency is important

 

It was always questionable from the start if diplomacy, olive brwnches and a few concessions would get us anywhere with someone like Trump but given how much a serious trade war with US can damage Canada it made sense to at least try and exhaust that option first before going back to firm retaliations

 

Doug Ford just made that a lot more difficult and he shouldnt have interfeared

This is all just a ruse and a distraction tactic, the "trade talks" themselves were a joke. There is no negotiating with Trump, he isn't a logical person. His previous justification, the "fentanyl coming over the border" was just made up lie. There is nothing we can do to make him happy, I think it's useless to try and jump through his hoops anyway
