Stevo 641
As well all know, Grace Jones has made a few disdainful remarks about LG in the past, particularly calling her an "empty vessel" and having "no personality" as well as other accusations of copying her. They've met before in person so I find it weird how she'd disparage LG like that, especially an up-and-coming artist (sounds similar to another artist that did the same thing ) I've always gotten the vibe that LG has a fair amount of control with her image and music, so I don't think it's fair to say she is an empty vessel. Someone "trying to find herself" isn't an empty vessel either. Why do you think LG hasn't commented on her, and why was Jones' so critical? It's strange how a lot of 80's icons Madonna, Grace Jones, Boy George, David Bowie? had some beef with LG. TheARTPOPball 806
I think her comments were hateful and aren’t coming from a place of good faith or discernment as she seemed to be offering them up as.
Horny Chicken 9,238
I love Grace Jones’ music but she’s quite a hateful person and has been one her entire life. LG just happened to be another victim. Edited 11 hours ago by Horny Chicken 1

River 118,764
irrelevant to the Lady Gaga narrative tbh Grace Jones is like that product that everybody knows by name, but nobody cares much to buy or remember how it looks like. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
MOT 3,206
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but we have a saying in Ireland which perfectly encapsulates the best attitude that someone like Gaga can have towards someone like Grace, and I think Gaga, even though she's probably never even heard the saying, has adopted the attitude quite successfully over the last 17 years. F--k the begrudgers !
ManMan 1,682
is the rise of Lady Gaga a threat to Madonna, Grace Jones, Boy George, David Bowie? I shine more in the dark.
Borislshere 53,097
I laughed at her comments tbh she’s funny. It happened so long ago and who knows what the actual interaction between them was like
Killa 17,790
I think She took beef with Gaga from appropriating of her iconic hood. I Always interpretated It that way. The problem Is grace Jones Is Indeed a big icon. She couldn't view It as a compliment but that It hurtful for her image. Since its not like She has other things going for her besides her image and vintage iconic photshoots. The music isnt what made her her. This was my very personal biased interpretation. And Shes usually sort of mean or maybe sort of rude. Its not that Deep honestly, people love tò write off newcommers. And Gaga was heavy on the pastiche, vintage vibe. I actually miss that blantant homage.

LilyLark 10,131
Grace has always been this way. She's literally criticized like 20+ different artists. She's an icon, but she can be cruel. I have a bizarre memory, where I can recall random popculture facts from when I was like 13 but I can't always remember birthdays, and I distinctly recall her dragging multiple big names. I'm surprised the Beyhive sort of memory-holed it, but she even insulted Bey back in the day (but like over a decade ago), which makes it a bit amusing they later worked together. She's also insulted Mariah (not openly, but it was clearly directed at her), Rihanna, Gaga, Miley, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and so on. I'm sure there are more. I think fans take things a bit too serious. The comments were mean, but I don't think any of the old artists had actual beef with Gaga beyond Madonna. Also, a decade or so ago, it honestly wasn't that uncommon for older artists to critique newer 00's artists, either, so it's not like Gaga was singled out. Taylor, Rihanna, Miley, etc. all were dragged, and even Bey (much more rarely). All of the girls-including Gaga-have also had legends praise them. Lastly, Gaga's a bit like Cher or Elton John. All of them can sing, but some people absolutely did look down on them for being campy and wearing goofy outfits, etc. So I think that probably contributed to the criticism. None of them were/are really seen as being "too cool for school" a la Prince, Grace, or David Bowie, and were seen more as goofy (in a sense) if fun and entertaining.
