This isn't surprising because I believe she reached peaked popularity with the Eras tour. Kind of like how Gaga sold a million copies of BTW in the first week, on the back of TFM. Let's see if the album has legs, which would be a better indicator on whether she has peaked?

You gotta hand it to Taylor though. I don't think her fanbase is significantly bigger than Britney or Backstreet Boys at their peak. But they consume and consume and spend money. I see this as more peak capitalism than peak pop culture, but still these numbers are insane when some hip hop artists couldn't even push 5000 copies of physicals in a week.

So 1M it is 🤷‍♂️

It actually would be more impressive.

That’s the whole point..

Her whole point is to break records, 1M is not enough

Putting up limited time only variants = boosting up first week sales to break Adele’s record

Putting up more and more variants with each album = eventually breaking Madonna’s record

Economy

What the actual fck

We got generational over achievers of massive success in different generations...

Elvis Presley

Madonna

Michael Jackson

Whitney Huston

Celine Dion

Mariah and Britney

Eminem

Then for this generation we got

 Taylor Swift :air: :rip:

Capitalism is dying (that's why we suffer as much as we do cuz it's back to feudalism) and pop culture is already dead. Taylor's mediocrity could not compete with the works from 85-2010 when pop culture peaked. Internet killed the traditional media and monoculture. That's also why we don't have any good movies nowadays.

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

It's actually wild how people blindly consume her garbage music... feels like majority don't even have a personal taste anymore, they just jump on a bandwagon because they think it's cool :air:

It’s the fear of missing out too. Imagine you didn’t listen to her new album. Your friends and everyone around will talk about it and then you will miss the conversation. If you cannot make a comment, boom you will not be invited to the next girl meet up. You invited your friends to your house and you don’t have the pink glitter white shimmer Travis Kelce Picture disk version of the album on your wall? Boom, you are lame as hell now and you will not sit at the lunch table with us. You have to stay current, you have to understand the lore and you have to know what lyrics mean. This peer pressure on young white girls what makes her the strongest.

Well she will inevitably break Adele's record with one of her albums so not surprising to me. The key difference is, when Adele released 25, everyone and their mother rushed to buy a personal copy, and maybe one for the car. People gifted the album to eachother at Christmas because they thought the receiver likes Adele just as much as they do. That's an artist that really touched the regular person. Like Céline did before her. Like Whitney with Bodyguard. Taylor releases same bland songs with 55 variants in 120 formats and her fanbase makes sure to get all of them because they think it's their personality.

Art and music can be commercial, but Taylor is just the soundtrack to late capitalism. I will continue to be disgruntled, and she'll continue to sell millions every week. :madge:

She's McDonald's to me.

The woman buys and manipulates her way to breaking records. Who really cares? She may have a trophy but it’s as hollow as her songwriting
