weed 78,941 Posted October 1, 2025 Share Posted October 1, 2025 (edited) Dr. Jane Goodall, the renowned conservationist and animal welfare advocate who became the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees after spending decades studying them in the wild in Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park, has died. She was 91. According to a statement on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from her eponymous institute, she died in Los Angeles of natural causes while on a speaking tour. She leaves behind her son, Hugo, and three grandchildren. "Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world,” her institute said. In a lengthy tribute, the institute added that her "life and work not only made an indelible mark on our understanding of chimpanzees and other species, but also of humankind and the environments we all share. She inspired curiosity, hope and compassion in countless people around the world, and paved the way for many others." Rest in Peace to this legendary icon. I remember learning all about her as a kid and she is one of (if not THE) reasons I became such an animal lover and learned to appreciate conservation efforts! Whatever she did, she did it with all her heart despite even the harshest critics and situations. That lady truly is a hero and she left a real legacy behind. I will forever adore her on so many different levels. RIP to an icon. A woman, that really made a change on this planet. Dr Goodall, thank you for your services on this earth.
