Not to mention projecting their disdain for the song onto others 😭 Like no some of us just simply like it. If the song were on MAYHEM at launch people would not be nearly so harsh on it. In fact, when first seeing the video, i thought certain shots were too reminiscent of Alejandro and Born this Way. For me it was simply the music. Looking back on a thread here many months back (or possibly a reddit post) where everyone was discussing why 143 was supposed to be Katy’s comeback album and why it was underperforming, i remember commenting that she still has her Pop Star abilities, and the concept and theming down as well. She just needs to make better music. And i think that applies to a LOT of pop stars these days. I’d actually argue it being reminiscent of but so different from those two is what made people pay attention.
