A very interesting point that I once have made a post/topic about, unfortunately I cannot find it through the search function because it is limited to only newer posts, otherwise I'd quote it. Anyway, I'm gonna re-write the essential parts of that older post/topic: In the 1990s/2000s, there was less competition and less ways for an individual to distribute music on her own/his own to reach general public, people relied on big labels. If we imagine fame as a cake, and famous persons as parts of a cake, each famous person would get a proper big part of that cake. Now in the 2020s, there is much more competition, much more releases, any individual can release songs on his/her own and distribute it through like TikTok or spotify or other way. And most importantly: New music exists alongside older music, the amount of total music gets bigger and bigger and bigger and everything new has theoretically more competition than ever before because on streaming older songs remain available. This makes it in theory harder with every year passing by for a new star to become super famous. The pieces of the cake become smaller and smaller and new releases come so fast that 2 year olds are overshadowed already. Everythings becomes faster, and that's hard to build fame on if we consider that e.g. Taylor Swift built her mega-fame on the many eras she previously had. In the end, the real famous persons are those who had acquired their fame already before "mass competition" in always-internet times. This also explains why so many stars born in their 80s still are ruling, still are super famous because those born afterwards were challenged by music oversaturation through internet times including on mobile phones, while Miley and Selena started at a so young age that they came along with the rise of the 80s stars, despite being from the 90s. However, the new internet opportunities can give chances and rise to starlets like Ayesha Erotica. We can make music on our own and do not depend on labels, neither on livenation. Ayesha Erotica 1,799
There is also a flaw in his argumentation logic: A sports match is attended by fans of TWO teams, and you always play against opponents, it literally takes two to tango. Artists, however, do not play against others; they are only attended for their own sake. Also sports teams come to represent their university, city or nation and they draw fans even among from people who are only indirectly cheering for them and rather for their college, city or nation in first place. But artists do not have this multiple representation. The only exception to this rule is the Eurovision Song Contest which is a massive event exactly because it represents 26 nations in the final. Therefore, ticket prices on average for music stars should be actually less than 50% the price of a sports match Edited September 18 by Ayesha Erotica Your boyfriend comes over with a bit of gun oil Says he wants to step on new soil

No wonder crowds have been getting quieter and quieter. Going to concerts has turned into a social-media flex. You no longer go to concerts to dance and celebrate your fave, you go because of TikTok consumerism FOMO. I've been to a few concerts lately, including MAYHEM, where I have seen people making tik toks and/or just scrolling on social media as if they are at home chilling... MY top 3 "favorite" moments: 1. Homegirl who started scrolling on instagram during Hair at MSG... I (jokingly) feel like you should be removed at that point or the ticket should go to someone else 2.I watched a girl have her boyfriend record her singing along at the Smashing Pumpkins, and she kept looking at the video and making him redo it and then the song ended and she got mad... I'm sure it looks cool on Tik Tok but its actually hilarious how stupid people look doing that type of **** in public 3. The woman who was playing wordle at a Rick Springfield concert while he was walking in the aisle right past us... Didn't even look up once lol Concert etiquette is dying, and the social-media flex aspect of it has ruined it for people who just want to go to dance and have fun. I'm kinda nervous about the crowd being dead at the MAYHEM show in DC.

A lot of people really do live through their phones and it's very strange to witness that shift. 1

mightyriverz 2,653
I feel that, in the years to come, we either are going to be very disappointed with many of the artists we admire, including Gaga herself; or we're gonna witness some major changes with how touring and concerts happens in order for fans to keep going. That, or greed will kill art.

Your post reminded me, I treat myself to a cheap ticket at the ballet every January, and last time I went there was a lady in her 50s in the row in front of me playing candy crush! Her daughter had to elbow her for her to switch her distracting screen off. It seems that manners and self awareness are on the way out and entitlement is in she/her 🖤 Gaga, Billie, MJ
Borislshere 53,099
Let’s just stop going. Honestly. Let these shows have poor ticket sales then they’ll see how underpriced they truly are.

Luckily her daughter had some sense and hopefully you still were able to enjoy the show! 1
