Guille 1,275
OMG I don't even know where to begin So, first of all, DISCLAIMER - This thread may come across as NO surprise at all for some people, but I bet some of you had not thought about this either, so I'm going to elaborate my theory I was just casually jogging around this afternoon, listening to my suggested Daily Mix, when (Sabrina Carpenter came in, so I skipped it and) 'HOW BAD DO U WANT ME' started playing While I (was making up my own world-tour-performance in my mind, I needed to contrast with the actual one, so) I recreated the true MAYHEM ball performance in my mind, listening to the lyrics, it all CAME TOGETHER. I have spent half a year thinking this was the average meaning pop song about two girls and one man, but NO! (If you have too, you are WRONG! ) What if I told you... 'How Bad Do U Want Me' comes together with other songs in Gag's discography where she just seems to hate (or at least, be unsure) of being... exactly, Lady Gaga. It could be the continuation to 'Perfect Celebrity' or 'Fun Tonight' (undeservably hated by this fanbase, by the way ). So let's analyze the lyrics, it won't be long from now, but it is a constant dual-dialogue where she intertwines her speech as both Gaga, the persona, and her true self, Stefani. "The good girl in your dreams / Is mad you're lovin' me / I know you wish that she was me / How bad, bad do you want me?" Stefani is mad you are loving Lady Gaga, but in reality, she speaks to this person, "I know you wish I was Lady Gaga, but I am not! I am Stefani, so, HBDUWM? "You're not the guy that cheats / And you're afraid that she might leave / 'Cause if I get too close, she might scream / "How bad, bad do you want me?" Her lover is not the kind that cheats, but, he seems to be in love with Gaga. Stefani is mad, and accuses them and they are afraid her persona might leave, and if they get real close to her, her true self, Stef, will desperately ask again, HBDWUM!? "Cause you like my hair, my ripped-up jeans / You like the bad girl I got in me / She's on your mind, like all the time / But I got a tattoo for us last week / Even good boys bleed / How bad, bad do you want me?" There was a time where we were accostumed to seeing Gaga in more casual attires, usually related to eras where she was more connected to herself and her roots than her character, like the Joanne era, and she has found this lover that seems to be in love for once with that. But she is afraid, once again, that they might be in love that Lady Gaga, the character, which is on their mind all the time, even though she is rooting for their real, human relationship and connection! And I could go on forever (well, not actually, just as far as the song goes ) explaining the meaning of each of the words, and why I finally understood what this song is about, the fear of Stefani of not being able to connect through her real self, the fear of people being in love with Lady Gaga, the character, and not the inside. And that's why the MAYHEM ball performance is, JUST. LIKE. THAT. To conclude, think twice about this: "That girl in your head ain't real / How bad do you want me for real?" She is tired, and needs to feel a true, real and honest connection. Lady Gaga might or not be real, but Stefani, for sure is. How bad do you want ha for real? Had you thought about this before? Have I just discovered a whole new perspective to you and you are never going to be able to experience HBDUWM as before? Will Boris comment on this thread confirming my theory and take me backstage at my date for cracking the code? Will you finally understand that this is one of the best songs she's ever made? darkgaga 5,546
Wasnt this kinda how she explained it herself to in the Zane Lowe interview? I kinda always saw it as the internal struggle, especially after the MBT started and the way she performs it showing the real girl behind all the theatrics

There is no actual other good girl, the good girl is in their head, and they’re kind of comparing me the whole time" She explained it like this at "Los Culturistas", but I am afraid it goes much deeper than that, that's what I was trying to explain, it's not just "a good girl vs what they're stuck with" it is on the level of 911 2 minutes ago, Celloo Deng said: sis you are late but i'm glad you've seen the light! this is why it's the encore song with the dressed-down look HBDUWM supremacy Some people need their own time, it only took me 6 months, you can't complain!
Lextyr97 20,031
Well, yes! It’s why she ends The Mayhem Ball the way she does and I love it.
G U C C I 5,510
Loved reading your breakdown, but this is why I have loved the song since the first listen. It’s intended to be Stefani vs Lady Gaga which is why she performs it the way she does. I actually can’t see it ever being intended any other way. Zombieboyyy 52
I never thought this TS-wannabe song was that deep. I knew why she performed it live that way but I was never very interested in understanding the whole meaning. You can laugh at me but after these revelations I think I'll enjoy this song more and damn it fits MAYHEM more than I thought Edited 6 hours ago by Zombieboyyy
