Rumor has it that Trump & Putin exchanged Venezuela for Ukraine

If you were Ukrainian men, aged 28, conscripted to the front, would you go to the front and get likely bombed by Russia or would you escape to another country/not go to war front which is equal to surrendering?

I'd fight.

If you fight, there's a chance things don't get worse.

If you run, you're already dead. The life you had is gone, likely never to come back.

You'll end up in a country that either instantly hates you're existence or will come to hate your existence.

And if you go back, you'll be permanently judged by those who stayed. You'll be at risk of deliberate isolation or worse.

So by running you lose everything. By staying, you at least have a chance.

This sounds too fan fiction even for Trump...

I am now more convinced than ever before that the US will invade Venezuela in 2026.

There are 15 000 military men now in the southern Caribbean.

There are 11 war ships, including one aircraft carrier.

There is one submarine, but of course, submarines are secret and who knows how many there really are.

There are bombers on the aircraft carrier.

https://ktar.com/national-news/a-look-at-the-us-militarys-unusually-large-force-near-venezuela/5794329/

The last time when there was such a high density of forces in the 20th century in South America, was when America invaded, too.

And now Trump said that he wants the oil back.

So I suppose the military presence is going to increase in 2026.

Remember Trump already wanted in 2017 to invade Venezuela.

It is ture he wanted to do so many things of which not all have happened, but now we have substantial signs of it happening.

So, I think I was right, because this never was about drugs - so many other nations deliver them, yet are not attacked by the US - but about getting access to the oil reserves. Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world. Yet, it does little export because of sanctions and because it is dysfunctional. Venezuela is more valuable than Greenland.

"Trump says that the military will remain in place "until such time as they [Venezuela] return to the United States of America all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us".

This is basically a declaration of war without calling it a declaration of war. So V is gonna be occupied.

Precht also said that Ukraine should surrender, so I wouldn't trust him that much. He's pretty much hated in Germany

It's obvious to everyone that Trump and Putin made some sort of deal, I doubt it's this though.

That’s what I’m thinking. Clearly something shifted but that substantial? No way

I was right in my prediction.

Most of the user here ridiculed my theory and Precht, but it was true and right. Most of you were wrong.

U make it sound like ur somehow guaranteed to be better off fighting

You also have a "chance" to start over somewhere else and rebuild a life while you could in the meantime outright die fighting, have it drag on for many years with your life on hold, and then go back to a crippled nation if u survive the war era

We took in a lot of Ukranian refuges. My dad works with one that already bought a house (albeit an old modest one and comes with long commute). In Ukraine fighting, hed be either dead or if alive, his life would still be on hold now

So its not that clear cut that running away us always worse. It can also turn out better

It was always clear to me that Trump would attack Venezuela, ever since he sent the first boats and openly proposed it during his first term. And after his meeting with Putin - before which he wanted to send Ukrainian long-range weapons capable of reaching Moscow - he essentially abandoned Ukraine, and Putin started drone flights into NATO territory, something that hadn't happened before the meeting. Trump even seemed to enjoy watching Putin's actions, when his drones entered Poland. Later, Trump suggested that Ukraine also cede the rest of the Donbas, "because Putin will conquer it anyway." A trade-off took place. Trump will claim Venezuela as a success, and Putin will claim Ukraine.

And Precht was not against Ukraine, but he held the view that Ukraine would be abandoned by the West and therefore could not win, and Precht correctly predicted this.

The only thing I’m not sure about here is that, even if Ukraine is abandoned by the West (which Trump seems wishy-washy about, to say the least and I don’t see the UK abandoning Ukraine any time soon), I still think the conflict has largely been a war of attrition and Ukraine, often times somewhat independent of US involvement and intelligence, has proved formidable against Russia. Only time will tell (and Trump’s fickle nature does Putin no favors), but I still don’t know if I agree that Ukraine falls.

I think you have to look at what happens in the long term with the Ukranian refuge situation to use it as legitimate evidence. We don't know what nation states intend to do with their residency once the war ends (which is looking increasingly close).
Given they primarily went to states with major immigration debates, and hostile debates at that, there is a real risk that the states that have or get far-right russian allied leaders within this decade that the refugees are forced home.

And then you get the classic situation I was referring to - a refuge that hates you, and forces you out or into poverty etc. And a home nation filled with the enemy who may seek to punish you/make examples of you, alongside fellow citizens who resent you for fleeing when they were unable to. Coupled with the fact that you're likely sent back to your origin country without finances/stable housing etc. So all that's happened is you've delayed the inevitable collapse of your life.

Like I draw this conclusion based on how I've seen locals in the UK treat polish airmen who settled here after serving in the RAF during the 2nd world war. I've seen how they were accepted, built families etc and then given enough time people were smashing their windows and grafitiing their houses telling them to go home.

I'd honestly rather take my chances at home, not out of any patriotic sentiment. But simply because, years of studying history has made me view taking refuge as the worst option.

And I have yet to be proven wrong. He "got the guy" but that's the easy part. Any idiot with some missiles, a helicopter, and bribed government officials could do that.

Will his administration be able to actually enstate the change he wants to see in Venezuela?

I still have massive doubts :partysick:

They couldn't even bomb boats without f*cking it up.

Taking bets on how he'll f*ck this up too.

Honestly, I agree on the charges part. The legal framework for charging a foreign leader for domestic crimes is already a very legally tenuous situation, much less securing a conviction on something like “narco-terrorism” (especially after SCOTUS stated Trump didn’t have the evidence to prove that Venezuela’s government was using the cartels to engage in acts of war against the US).

I personally agree that the charges will likely blow up in Trump’s face, but the deed of deposing Maduro will have already been done atp (which introduces a lot of chaos about what would happen if/when the charges fall through).
