First, I want to make it clear that I agree with everything you wrote, I just wanted to expand on this part of your comment, but its not directed at you.

Our values are about us, not about others. If our values are based on how bad the world is, we will end up being bad people. This is why progressives believe in treating criminals in prison with dignity, even if these criminals would have raped, killed, and terrorized us. There is a difference between celebrating the death of an evil person, and being relieved (not happy) that this evil person wont cause harm anymore.

I was no fan of him and I certainly don't think he deserves any bravery awards but at the end of the day, he was a human and also a husband and father. His wife is widowed young and those kids are only 3 and 1 and will have to be told that their dad's never coming home. The knock-on effect this will have on his family is so sad. I can think he was a horrible man with appalling views but still appreciate that he built a life for himself that involved others and they will suffer for this. I can imagine his widow will likely end up trolled, which is a common reaction to the deceased's spouse when they're a celebrity which is a sad reflection of our time. 

The whole thing is so surreal to me because I literally only found out who he was late last year and now he's been assassinated and while he was answering a question about mass shootings. The last time I ever heard stories of a public assassination was Kennedy, things like this just don't happen in my lifetime. It does set a precedent for how other high ranked conservative figures may now be scared for their safety and what this means in the MAGA vs everyone else debate which has raged on for almost a decade now. I don't want real civil unrest to come about from this. Anyone in the crowd could easily have been hit and the terror that must have struck that crowd's heart must have been immeasurable. It's like America has collective trauma from all these shootings, as soon as they hear the slightest thing that sounds like a gunshot, they're running for exits. And the terrifying thing is, they're often not overreacting.

Two Democratic lawmakers were assassinated along with their dog in Minnesota just 3 months ago. 

And Trump did not extend any of these honors to them or their families and many people did not give a damn.

Just pointing out that this isn't a one-sided issue and these MAGA extremists would cheer at seeing people who they perceive to be on the Left dead.

Let me say this: I don't feel a morsel of empathy for him whatsoever. He was one of the biggest voices in the Trump/MAGA sphere, and much of his rhetoric plagued people's minds with racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, and sexism. He has said so much sh*t about all kinds of groups of people that the fact that he brought up his own demise doesn't make me sad at all. I'm not mourning him, and I don't think you should be unless you are a defender of his or support his rhetoric.

To be frank, I find the online "backlash" to people's apathy toward the situation incredibly frustrating. We do not have to mourn him. We do not have to be sad he's gone. He didn't give a sh*t about children who were murdered in schools by gun violence, he didn't give a sh*t about queer people being berated for their existence, he didn't give a sh*t about immigrants or minority groups, and the list goes on. He didn't care about anyone except Trump and furthering this extremist, Christian, straight, white, male agenda. He wouldn't have cared if anyone else died, so there is no reason to expect that people are going to give him the same grace.

Also, the amount of "we may have had a difference of opinion..." posts I've seen is f*cking insane. THIS WAS NOT MERELY A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION. He was a Nazi and perpetuated hatred and bigotry of all kinds. Stop trying to downplay the kind of rhetorical sewage he spewed on a daily basis. Let's remember that words have consequences and power. The damage he (and people like him) have done will be more long-lasting than his death. 

Lastly, this kind of goes with the last paragraph, but I find many celebrity/online leftist personalities' reactions to this extremely annoying. It's the same "we had a difference of opinion" bullsh*t sprinkled with "political violence is never the answer." News flash! This country was founded on political violence! "Political violence" isn't a new f*cking concept. People are acting like this is a recent thing, as if violence has never been used in the history of the US...Honestly, I think the situation has exposed a whole bunch of spineless leftists. People in Nepal are literally protesting and rioting against their corrupt ass government while we're over here like "omg but what about his friends and family??". You will never see anything remotely progressive done at a federal level in the foreseeable future because leftists always feel the need to placate the alt-right.
