Apple is trying really hard to break into the film business with their smart phones and it just simply doesn’t look good. There is no real depth of field and no iPhone will be able to capture that. 4K crisp image when you can’t possible distinguish the background, middle ground and foreground will never look like a professional camera. Besides it’s not like normal people will be able to shoot this type of videos because you still need custom made equipment and lights to use the phone in this way. And film studios won’t invest in equipment that is so niche when they can just keep on using the ones they have.

It’s a shame cause this would have been a fun tour to see recorded professionally, but this just totally took the excitement out of it. I mean just look at the footage the tweet posted? It the behind the scenes footage looks grainy as hell like any other Tik Tok and the tour footage looks flat and I can see the pixels and lower bitrate from a mile away.

Not even filmed horizontally though? 👀

I'm sorry but people who film their iphone videos vertically are guaranteed mouth-breathers

Of course an iPhone will never be able to capture a film quality image in itself, but as you mentioned, paired with the right equipment and after bypassing its default settings, it's become as good a recording device as anything else. The fact that it's so small actually allows shots and movements that wouldn't be possible with a classic, bigger camera. It's quite easy to dismiss it as just a gadget pushed by Apple, but frankly it's opening interesting new possibilities, and I think Danny Boyle made quite a compelling display of that with 28 Years Later.

Doesn’t really matter if the picture quality looks like ass compared to film. If they so desperately want different shots they can film the rehearsal 🤷🏼‍♂️. I don’t think this is creating the interest that maybe Apple thinks. I hope this was just a display of the new camera and not that they are actually doing a concert film.

professionally shot films on an iphone dont use the iphone's default features, they include sensors, new lenses, and other equipment that allow for a quality similar to traditional cameras, the advantage being that the iphone, even with all this gear, makes transporting the equipment, managing logistics, sending footage for editing, and storing files much easier than with traditional cameras, and much cheaper, among other things. it's really interesting.
