retrosexual123 978 Posted yesterday at 05:23 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:23 PM So I’m re listening to Mayhem from start to finish, the expanded version, and it’s just THE album! Disease, Abracadabra set really strong intentions, they’re both Gaga bangers, but fresh, new. Garden of Eden is a pop masterpiece. Perfect Celebrity, Can’t Stop the High edge you up, they are raw, angry, human and both earworms. Just when you think you’ve climaxed… Vanish Into You brings you home, straight into those feels. Killah, Zombieboy, The Dead Dance pick you back up — they are fun, camp, not too serious, you don’t know if it’s pop, funk or what, but you’re having a great time. LoveDrug, HBDUWM (the hit that you are), Don’t Call Tonight all do away with the cartoon and make it all feel real, bring love to the forefront. Gaga is telling us — we all need love. Don’t Call Tonight, Kill for Love, Shadow of a Man: a return to pure pop. The Beast I’ve never really connected with to be honest. And I know Blade of Grass is meaningful to Gaga, but I think Happy Mistake would have been so great instead. Ending with the hit of the decade… DWAS. This album is so strong. It’s bound to age in 10 years into Gaga’s strongest album along with BTW. Nearly 20 years into her career, this is a massive feat! 4 13

tlittlemonster 1,856 Posted yesterday at 05:29 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:29 PM I couldn't agree more I remember when Chromatica came out I loved the album but only a couple months later, I became bored of it It's the exact opposite for MAYHEM - the album is so much more diverse, with more edge and with outstanding production that you keep re-discovering different songs. I'm in love with Kill for Love since it was added to streaming and The Dead Dance is increasingly growing on me too. Except 1-2 songs, the album is truly a 10/10. 1

Nagini 2,840 Posted yesterday at 05:33 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:33 PM My favorite Gaga album upon first listen. Legit I couldn't believe my ears when I first heard these songs and I still feel the same way. It's all I listen to.

SevenWonder 4,384 Posted yesterday at 05:38 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:38 PM I could not agree more. It's truly a phenomenal album. I agree with you that The Beast and BoG are the only mids. And they aren't bad at all. Just not as stand out as everything else. But every other song is great or offers something great (DCT has the best bridge on the album). More importantly, the entire album tells a story that resonates and deepens with each listen (your breakdown of this story was fantastic, btw). JohnWayne92 2,212 Posted yesterday at 05:40 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:40 PM I completely agree with you. I will say The Beast is one of my favorite tracks - but 100% Happy Mistake would have fit better than Blade of Grass. I believe it was meant for MAYHEM anyway. 5
Ladle Ghoulash 26,422 Posted yesterday at 05:40 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:40 PM Been feeling this way especially w/ the expanded tracklist. IMO TDD in the middle of the album breathes new life into LD, HBDUWM, and DCT and the whole run now from Disease -> SOAM (maybe even TB) feels seamless. Ngl I honestly think even having both BOG and HM on the album works We have forgotten our public MANNERS
Red 98,160 Posted yesterday at 05:46 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:46 PM So you would say you are tasting the last words Gaga recorded to us like wine? *drums* If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Happy Mistake was written for Chromatica, if I'm not mistaken. But it would fit great as the album closer after The Beast. Kinda like Angel Down is a great closer for Joanne. And Blade of Grass and DWAS can be added as extra songs, like Grigio Girls and Just Another Day You're stinky

clownery 6,620 Posted yesterday at 05:51 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:51 PM Honestly yeah the album has Abra, GOE, Vanisha, Zombieboy and The Beast, it really is her best release since ARTPOP. Drag me.

A lot of the album could be read as different trauma responses but ending with JAD is kinda like the healthiest response to pain and shows the most growth. It's a very satisfying conclusion to leave my favorite album on But, Angel Down is also an incredibly sobering and dire song to leave it on, which also feels appropriate. If Mayhem is really about the chaos inside Gaga's mind and in the world, Happy Mistake would be the most direct but beautiful part of the album Just wait until I make my "The Dead Dance lyric theories" thread I have this banger idea about the "you took my queen with just one pawn" line 'cause in chess, the likelihood of a pawn being able to take out a queen is next to zero unless you let it happen for some reason...miss Gaga hiding the deep stuff behind that spider/Thing dance move thinking I wouldn't notice You're stinky
