Morphine Prince 109,655
A federal appeals court ruled Friday that most of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs are illegal, striking a massive blow to the core of his aggressive trade policy. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in a 7-4 ruling held that the law Trump invoked when he granted his most expansive tariffs does not actually grant him the power to impose those levies. Trump is all but certain to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court. The appellate court paused its ruling from taking effect until Oct. 14, in order to give the Trump administration time to ask the Supreme Court to take up the case. The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on Friday’s ruling, which is the second straight loss for Trump in the make-or-break case. We say that as if it’s a foregone conclusion and as if they’ve never ruled against him lol. I’m not saying there’s no chance they rule in his favor, I’m just tired of the doomerism/learned helplessness I see online about Trump. Tbh even if they don’t, he’s walked back most of the most impactful ones atp and, with any press from relevant industry leaders, could easily end up walking back many of the remaining ones. I'm not saying that they're going to immediately coup, but they're desensitizing people to how odd it is. Even if it isn't Trump, the next president to do it will be able to say "it was done before". Eh, I don’t think this is very effectively normalizing it, tbh. I’m not saying that there’s isn’t authoritarian intent, but I think both efficacy in normalizing it and in utilizing it matters and I think, given that the attempted “occupation” of LA failed, resulted in retreat and rebuke in court, this deployment in DC feels like a fairly pathetic attempt to reclaim the strongman narrative. Lextyr97 20,791
The way this is the second time and the SCOTUS will still put a stay on the ruling. **** this admin and **** the Supreme Court, unless they also rule that it is illegal (which it 10990000% is) Edited August 30, 2025 by Lextyr97
Lord Mayhem 3,428
His tariffs are so bipolar its not even funny...his indecisiveness on the percentage is what's causing so much economic instability and volatility One day a country has 10%...the next its 30%...then he thinks he made a "deal" and down to 15%...then they do something he doesnt like and back up to 25% Like...
