omg taylor's team is insane :nooo: I googled her name on google (cause I want to buy 1 of the variants but that's not really the point :glamourpuss:)

and I'm greeted with this:

Capture.png

She literally has confetti raining down her google search :air:

it's also on Apple Music and TikTok. every time this confetti changes color, she announces new variants. at first it was orange, then purple, and now blue.

Not here to start drama, but I think you guys truly forget how many variants Gaga released for Mayhem (and she was not able to get this amount of sales unfortunately :()

There's something really unique about the fanbase that Taylor has, and its desire to buy everything she puts out

The difference is Taylor’s vinyls are marketed as limited editions only available for certain time and they have exclusive tracks

she’s only doing it to beat Adele’s first week sale record and Madonna’s overall sale record

once again: these were not limited time, staggered releases. most of these are still available. gaga didn't pull the FOMO card as hard.

mother, what must i do?

Yes, unfortunately, she did. Gaga made us fans purchase at least two CDs or vinyls to get all the songs, and that's trashy and scammy in my opinion.

Also, having multiple variants is not environmentally friendly. This whole variants game is a great example of unsustainable practices. Put all the songs on one album and allow fans to buy the album once; better for the environment and consumers. If you want to make more money and increase sales, release a collector's edition with posters, a key chain, or something similar.

Variants are such a lazy way to get richer and sell more. I don't like the variants game, no matter who's doing it.

Thank you for pointing this out. This fan base can be so deluded and detached from the business side of the industry. They are so concentrated that these tactics are in place for a mere #1 debut on Billboard. They don’t take a moment to think how expensive physical variants can be and that no label would produce them to solely secure a position on a chart. We can very well admit that even with one variant she was destined for a #1 debut regardless. The bigger picture is that labels need to milk album campaigns financially and with a seasoned artist like Taylor they do a demand forecast to know exactly how many variants they need to produce and for all of them to sell. Inventory cost and shelf space is expensive, the reason Taylor is gonna do so many variants is because YES the same fans do WANT to own multiple variants. Any collector of anything knows that there is charm and value in owning multiple versions of the same thing. This is not a new tactic or concept. You’re seeing it with dolls, blind boxes, games, etc. The variants exist because there is genuine demand and love for them by her fanbase not for the sole purpose to inflate sales for charting merit. I urge some of you try to be more rationale and think it through before going on a keyboard hate strike.

girl be serious, her teams wants max sales numbers and they know how to do it by taking advantage of her fans

it's shameless and stressful for the consumers, giving them a tight window to make a choice

even the mayhem variants were stressful when they kept coming out one by one but at least people had time to choose

mother, what must i do?

but these are staggered releases in 48 hour time periods to grab it now and never again, not many variants available all at once... the FOMO is inflating the sales

there's been like 5 or 6 versions now? that's 5 sales per mega-fan and she has a LOT of mega-fans

gaga managed to squeeze 7 copies of mayhem out of me over time

i also said she would still clear her peers with just one single edition but i am certain this limited variant tactic is hyperinflating her sales

Exactly it’s all these limited time editions of the same album that fans feel they need to get. It’s almost like there should be a way to track how popular it is amongst different  people for chart purposes but obviously she’s allowed to milk her fans for as much money as she wants. But fan overbuying feels like not a real indicator of how popular it is in the nation in general.
