Not worse than Katy IMO, Ava was never in the stratosphere like Katy was so the fall off isn’t as much.

Lady Gaga doesn't owe us anything

Both were released before Troy and her parted ways.

🤷🏼‍♂️ Don't really know what to tell you. The height from which they fall doesn't matter. She still split with her manager during the rollout, impacting the rollout itself and the things emotionally attached to that. It's pretty clear the label isn't happy with her, even since D&D. She herself said that there are things she couldn't control. Part of the reason we never got more ARTPOP was due to rights to the music being attached to Troy, I assume the same holds true for Gaga. But if that's the excuse you have to make yourself to be hateful to others, then 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yeah, sorry, **** talking someone I don’t know and will never meet by making comments on a forum she’ll never read is simply not being a hateful person. It ain’t that deep, sister

The people saying she told them not to click play or just making fun of her career aren't making criticisms about the music though. If you just don't like the music, that's fine. Say all you want about it. The issue I'm seeing though is people just coming in here to make fun of her numbers or promo or anything else without even caring to say anything regarding the actual music.

It's the same people that complain (rightfully) about the genocide or discrimination or anything else hate related that's posted on here. It's an extreme, but it comes from the same place. Dehumanizing people and spreading hate, while devoid of any empathy. It's sad and sick. Social media normalized doing sick **** like that for clout.

I understand but I don't necessarily agree. Why are we even judges on what artists stand by what? This is still her job, you never know what she's having to say or do for her employer (the label). And it's very obvious she lacks control over her output anyways.

At the end of the day, artistic integrity has absolutely nothing to do with the emotions tied to having to change management or being forced to promote or not promote music you've tied your name to. She spoke about how there's things she can't talk about. And she spoke about how hard it's been for her to record music in the first place because she only ever was in the studio with the man that ended up cheating on her. In another thread people even tried to blame HER for him cheating. It's people being plain hateful for the fun of it. It's not about "Well Gaga seemed like she actually cared about ARTPOP" or "Well Gaga still sold better". Failing to understand that at the end of the day the numbers themselves don't even matter and that the display of how well someone seems to stand by their music is just a failure to recognize a person as a person. Not everyone on this site is gay, but a LARGE majority is. So for this to come from the "Love is love" and "I just want the right to exist as myself" community is absolutely rich.

To be clear i wasn't attacking your view or ava, just my thoughts on why some people will say that the ARTPOP era and this era are different ✌️

What was anyone thinking putting this project together? The artwork looks like a Dorito, there is no stand out song.. the only thing perfect is the title I guess :noparty:

I still can't tell if this album was a contractual obligation that Ava genuinely didn't want us to contribute streams to or just a reverse psychology moment.

I think it's the former while still giving fans some new music.

If this was intentionally bad, was literal about asking people not to stream just to stick it to the man, then I’m gagged. Honestly the only thing that could redeem any of this mess

Ain't no way label executives let this slide if they think it's that bad. Probably just a misfire they didn't expect. After all they always wish to get back whatever money they invested on artists during the recording process and then profit from it. They'd soon shelving a record if it's really bad and put it as tax write off instead, so they won't lose more money.

Katy used to a global sensation and now she's the benchmark for Ava Max :saladga:

Ava hasn’t really had a breakthrough album or hit so can’t compare that. Katy’s fall is way worse coming from Teenage Dream and Prism dominating pop music to suddenly 3 flops in a row each worse than the previous one.

It seems that Atlantic hasn't received the check for Die with a Smile yet so they don't have any funds to promote their artists:awkney:

Her downfall is so typical of how artists are just abandoned by labels after their big break-out for the most part. They're on their own after that and if you aren't delivering the goods, you'll be denied a budget, promo, great collaborators, the chance to tour, everything. And the label will have the cheek to say it's all the artist's fault. Ava's in one of the worst places to be right now with key team members no longer being a part of her rollout and the way things are going, she'll probably end up dropped after this.

Though it's not entirely the label's fault. Her material just isn't as good as the stuff she made at the start, her quality control has been declining since her debut. If her new work sounded like Sweet But Psycho, Kings & Queens and My Head & My Heart, it wouldn't necessarily be super successful (repeating the sound of past hits rarely works) but it would be doing a lot better than it is now. She's got a great voice but just doesn't use this incredible gift well on the songs she chooses to make. They're just safe, radio-friendly, inoffensive, run-of-the-mill pop tunes that you'll forget about immediately after listening. With few exceptions, that's what her music has always been. If it was really something amazing, it would be selling itself somewhat. We've seen how Gaga didn't need to do promo for DWAS and Abra to be hits. Speaking of which, the Gaga comparisons had just been going on too long and her attempt to address them in a sassy clapback way on the title track really was the nail in the coffin. She just never stepped out of Gaga's shadow with her sound and music, which wouldn't be bad if she was emulating more recent Gaga. But she's stuck in Gaga's 2008 shadow, resulting in dated dance pop that has no place on the charts in 2025.

I feel bad for her nevertheless, but she needs to buck up and start making a properly good album that's truly her own identity. Though if her label will let her do it is up in the air.
