Ava Max responds to comparisons to Gaga on her new album

Nobody makes that comparison since they realized Ava was simply not very good.

 

They said it when she released Sweet but a Psycho because she showed promise, but now...

I don't hate her at all, I think her songs sound great and are extremely catchy. Even some of her leaked outtakes are incredible 

that said, as someone who really likes her, I think she has had some trouble carving her own identity. it's one thing to sample/interpolate a song, but it's another to base a "new" song around a still-popular, very identifiable song... and she's released/been featured on a bunch of those, so it gives the perception that she piggybacks on other hits for success. AGAIN, I love her music- but I can understand this criticism 

as for Gaga comparisons, I've definitely heard certain vocal inflections during Ava's live performances that seemed super reminiscent of Gaga's unique style. idk if it was intentional, but it goes back to what I said about needing to carve out her own identity. then there's also the way she plays with repetitive constant sounds a la Gaga... something Gaga did, and still does, that's largely associated with her most mainstream songs.

and then like... showing up to a talk show dressed like this was a pretty undeniable comparison

I mean, come on

I just wanna know more of Ava outside of the psuedo-party girl lyrics that she sings. She is a GREAT vocalist, and I really hope she doesn't become a wasted talent because of trying to turn gimmicks into quick success.

This. The Gaga comparisons are very 2021/2022. I think it's wiser to just ignore the hate.

She gains nothing by doing this--not to mention it's just a bad lyric.

Personally, while I see the Gaga comparisons, they're so superficial and the two are such different artists. Ava is very talented vocally and some of her songs are bops. I think she and her label need to focus on growing her artistically and re-defining her sound.

She has a signature for sampling songs, and I think that's actually pretty neat if not consistent at least. But maybe a new direction is key.
