Trump wants to end mail-in voting

President Donald Trump on Monday wrote in a post to his social media platform that he will lead a "movement" to get rid of mail-in ballots and voting machines, claiming, without providing evidence, that they lead to voter fraud.

"I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS, and also, while we're at it, Highly 'Inaccurate,' Very Expensive, and Seriously Controversial VOTING MACHINES, which cost Ten Times more than accurate and sophisticated Watermark Paper, which is faster, and leaves NO DOUBT, at the end of the evening, as to who WON, and who LOST, the Election," Trump wrote in his social media post.

Trump said he will begin his efforts by signing an executive order ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Any such order would likely face legal challenges.

"Remember, the States are merely an 'agent' for the Federal Government in counting and tabulating the votes. They must do what the Federal Government, as represented by the President of the United States, tells them, FOR THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY, to do," Trump wrote.

The Constitution gives power to state legislatures to determine the "times, places and manner" of holding elections, subject to acts of Congress that regulate the process.

Trump has long sown doubts about mail-in voting, often over the objections of many Republicans. He's claimed mail-in voting contributed to his 2020 election loss, though no widespread fraud has been found.

Hmm, I get what you’re coming from BUT almost nobody believed the project 2025 and look where we are. 
I don’t know, I’m not really familiar with how that could be actually possible but if he feels like a king it’s because he’s getting enough support for such thing. It makes me really nervous that most people will still underestimate his moves while he and his teammates are REALLY trying everything they can to maintain their power confidently.

The whole situation is giving numbness from people who should be worried about it all if you ask me.

Wouldn't that be a good thing though? With voting machines and mail-in voting I feel like votes can be more easily manipulated by people.

In any case I also don't trust republicans at all to count the votes. I don't know how it works in the USA but votes should be counted both by republicans and democrats. There is literally no way that extreme right who's always playing dirty is being real and transparent about the votes.

There is no evidence this is true. There are multiple states where mail-in voting is widely used.

Voting machines are also backed by paper ballots in my state. As in, you submit on a machine and at the end a print out is given to you and submitted in a safe box. 

Trump is doing this because he wants voting to become less accessible.

With these sort of changes, he should set the date for the future. Like starting the year 2075 onwards. 
 

It’s evident he is making rules in his favor. Every American regardless of party should want things to be fair. Sadly his supporters don’t like to play fair. 
 

Same with him saying there should be more than 2 terms for a president. It’s like sure, but let’s not start that with you. Why just make rules as you go that just benefit yourself.

Not true at all.  There are checks and double and triple checks with mail in counting.  It’s pretty impossible to cheat, why is why Trump’s renewed focus on it raises eyebrows.

Normally it’s frustrating that all 50 states have their own laws and regulations for every little thing, but in this moment I am so glad the voting apparatus is almost entirely out of the federal government’s grubby little hands. (Any executive order he could make to this effect has no teeth.)
