why the need to attack me, i'm just pointing out it doesn't take 5 years to write 10 songs. :abra: especially when you have cowriters. and also is she a songwriter or a touring puppet then? if your passion is to create music, touring is a means to an end, but your passion is still to write. if she has openly said she preferred performing to writing though that's a different story. but if she is an ARTIST then she should not need 5 years for 10 songs imo.

I disagree on this.

You can be a creative person and love the creative process and still take time to make the art you want to make.

She's probably using hyperbole using the 5 year thing but her point is clear - she doesn't work well when locking herself in a studio and forcing herself to write. She writes what she wants when she wants to.

I've followed some authors who can turn out a brand new book nearly every 18 months to 2 years and then some authors who can take 5+ years between installments on a series.

This idea that you're only an artist if you are making art every moment of your waking day is a bit reductive.

I never said she was supposed to be able to churn out 10 albums a year. I just pointed out 5 years seemed excessively long considering this is her day job.

Think of your day job – imagine telling your boss you'd need 5 years to do whatever task they're asking you to do instead of within the deadline they outlined for you. Do you think that would go down well?

Now add to that the fact she has access to any producer/cosongwriter she wants considering her clout and fame level – she could work with anyone she wanted, and the reality of creation is that when you're creating with others it tends to flow easier and faster than when you have to do it all on your own.

Comparing writing an entire book to a 49-minute album with repetitions across choruses and parts that aren't even lyrics also seems beside the point. I'm not disparaging music writing as a songwriter myself, but the reality is that songwriting doesn't require the need to have a coherent plot, accuracy with facts (for example science in scifi) and proper grammar and syntax, as well as the avoidance of constant repetition. "H - O - T - T - O - G - O - you can have me hot to go" does not take the same amount of time to write as an entire chapter of a book, I'm sorry to say.

No one said she needed to be making art every moment of her waking day. But I do question her commitment to her craft when - yes - this is her primary day job, and she's not an established artist yet. Most artists dream of the level of success and exposure she has their entire lives and would not just sit around waiting for it to fade once it happened. She also probably did want that too, otherwise she wouldn't have signed to a label and written an album. She could easily have had a career as a backing vocalist, a commercial singer (singing at functions, weddings, jingles, etc.), and releasing her album on the side through self-publishing. The whole claims she "never wanted the fame" is a bit bs imo. I can buy that she was overwhelmed by how quickly it happened and is having trouble adjusting, but she also could retire now if she wanted to and is choosing not to.

She chose the major label route for a reason and people really need to start being more discerning imo.

Every artist is different. This is not an attack, but perhaps just let go of your ego. There isn’t some right or wrong artist, and comparing two different mediums is a little interesting, let alone comparing being a musician to a normal day job Art is about expression and for a lot of artist/ some form of catharsis . And a lot of famous  musicians have continuously been against the factory mindset, of just dishing out music for success …at least in hindsight they do. And she is the one with the contract, and Im sure her, her label, and creative team are discerning to all the deets needed to fulfill her contractual obligations. And if they aren’t, well life goes on. And we still won’t get music until she decides to create.

but again every artist is different. Some artists like to take there time and or need time , and simply others dont need or dont want to take their time. but i think we all know, and im sure you know well, that quantity of music not speed of releasing music consistently is directly tied to success. So many other variables at play.

Also mirrors my friend. If you feel like people are attacking you, go back you original post. mirrrorsss

Sneaky Oliver

I gotta respect her, she could have gathered a bunch of songwriters to put a new album together quickly and that’s what most of popstars of her league would do and which she obviously has the budget and the label support for, but choosing to create your sophomore record by scratch and choosing to honor your process and the time it takes?! Love her for that:applause:

she’s an unique artist, a creative force, she’s not a Sabrina Carpenter kind of I’m juicing every opportunity this business throws at me (no shade to Sabrina), not everyone can go for the Lorde route and succeed
