Chappell Roan reveals that her second album doesn’t exist yet

Maybe she could pull a Cardi B and release singles in between albums to keep up the hype (I know this isn't what Cardi was doing but you get my point). That would probably help to keep her momentum alive.

She’s really not interested in that pop star cycle at all. Deliberately waiting another 5 years after a huge breakthrough is wild to me, as a lot of fans will have moved on, but good for her for knowing her boundaries and not putting external pressure on herself . I really loved Midwest princess’s so I’ll still be interested whenever she finally puts it out. It’s interesting to see her process compared to Sabrina, who has wanted her breakthrough for long.and you can just see how eager she is to capitalize on her success right away with a new album. It’s kind d of making me like Sabrina a bit more right now because I’m so impatient.

Well I doubt she's sitting on her hands not writing. She's been talking about writing since the end of 2023 (which is where "Good Luck, Babe!" and "The Subway" came from), and even mentioned taking November last year through this May of this year to work on the album. She'll be going back in again to work on it more after her tour dates this fall. That doesn't sound like someone who isn't working to me. Artists can write hundreds of songs before finally whittling it down to become an album. I don't think that's a difficult concept to grasp.

the OP is literally quoting her saying she's not prolific, isn't writing non-stop and wants to take time to write. none of what you're saying is supporting the theory that she is writing hundreds of songs. in fact, she's specifically saying the opposite of that. on the other hand we have seen a lot of artists like lana, carly rae jepsen, even beyoncé talk openly about having hundreds of songs to choose from to whittle down to an album - even mariah carey. this is not what chappell has said. she has literally said "there is no collection of songs".

you can choose to fanfiction a reality yourself of what she is or isn't doing if you want to, but personally my preference is to stick to the facts of what she actually said.

Idk, she could easily mean there is no *collection* of songs, as in a series of songs that feel like a cohesive body of work. She might have a bunch of songs written, but not feel like they belong to the same world/concept.

I never said she was writing hundreds of songs. I said she’s spoken about writing over the last few years and has even said this year that she has songs upon songs that she’s ready to put out.

 

Her saying she’s not the type of artist to pump out material just because people are demanding it doesn’t mean she’s not creating. It’s very obvious that she’s just saying she doesn’t have an album in mind where these songs fit together as a unit yet. As her (now former) manager and Chappell herself has said, the plan is that they’re just going to keep releasing songs she likes as singles until an album comes into view
