I don’t know what to tell you.

That's great, because you don't have to tell me anything. I don't know what CBS dramas you're watching that make you so skeptical and cynical about marketing, but American Eagle isn't going to intentionally play with NAZISM for attention.

During any other time it would have been fine and "funny", but releasing this in 2025 in America? Weeellll....I see why people have an issue with it.

I mean Balenciaga literally created an ad with kids in BDSM gear themed clothing and other disturbing pedo stuff. So if that can happen then American Eagle have the capacity to do something as tone deaf. Even if it wasn't intentional, it was still very tone deaf and could be taken as propaganda.

Insanely naive of you to think that there was no awareness that this ad would be controversial, but that’s alright. You thought you ate, but you’re sounding a little hungry. Need a Snickers, diva?

Some of you are come off as so dense, good God.

Everyone knows the joke is she’s hot and has great genes (jeans).

The point is they also sprinkled subtle Nazi/eugenics in there.

They could have done literally the SAME THING but included models of other races also saying “X has great jeans” and done a whole campaign with that slogan.

But they didn’t. They knew this would cause controversy. These people aren’t stupid.

Dunkin’ is doing the same thing with mentioning genetics. This is not a coincidence.

Just remember where these companies were as a criminal racist is in power in the US and fascist ideologies are creeping into all facets of US society.

When the pendulum swings back to the left some of us won’t forget.

... she's not a natural blonde, dear. I thought we knew this. she doesn't even HAVE the aryan features you're talking about.

Busty dyed-blonde women have been the stereotype of commercial hotness in America for a long time - think Britney, think Pam Anderson, think Marilyn Monroe, hell, think Barbie.

I'm saying straight men would look at a mop handle if you put big t!ts and a blonde wig on it. Is this because they think women who are/dye their hair blonde are genetically better? No, it's simply because they think they're hot. It's just that simple.

You're getting so close to the point.

Just missing the final dot to connect it all.

hmm i guess i can kinda see it with this actually

'sydney sweeney has great genes' put like this poster is.. yeah.. very that

thats more than just the play of words in the ad

But she does have great genes! The ad is saying she’s beautiful. Not that her genes are great because she’s white omg. I get where people are coming from, but come on. There is so much more to worry about.

I think American Eagle could solve this by making it an ad campaign featuring different celebrities of different races with great genes too.

Apparently, no company has ever deliberately tried to generate controversy to get people talking about the brand.

Urban Outfitters tried to sell Kent State campus sweatshirts covered in bloodstains until enough people got pissed off.

Morals don't have a place in late stage capitalism. If corporations think nazi dogwhistles will sell more product, then that's what they'll use.

Jefree Star had a nazi-themed makeup line. H&M dressed their one black model in clothes depicting monkeys. Heinz released a campaign resembling minstrelsy.

A sprinkle of nazism is far from unheard of.

1. Jeffree Star is a trash nazi imo, so that checks out

2. the hoodie didn't show monkeys, it said "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle". but yes, I agree that was incredibly stupid and shortsighted to use a black child model for that hoodie. (also it was H&M UK so I can't speak to how widely-known that hurtful stereotype is there)

3. the Heinz ad with the ketchup on the actor's mouth was for the Joker 2 movie, and again - while completely shortsighted and stupid, I don't believe it was intentionally making reference to minstrel imagery. This article here even makes reference to potential ire of shareholders from both Heinz and DC: https://www.bandt.com.au/are-they-on-the-sauce-heinz-faces-backlash-for-another-racist-ad/

The latter 2 could potentially have been prevented (Jeffree is hopeless) with a more diverse team to notice such illusions (which they should have!), but I don't think either of them were ~intentional sprinkles of nazism.~

No disagreement here! :applause: I agree. This could have been prevented easily if it has been previewed by a more diverse team.

yes, she absolutely does

but considering the insane amount of racism etc that's going on in the world and majorly the US right now, it does come across as having billboards up saying "this is what we should look like"

the ad on the poster (specifically) is insensitive

"this blonde hair and blue eyed good looking girl has good genes" aka promoting those are the genes to aspire to

the cross out of 'genes' to 'jeans' almost feels like a way to say it but make it OK

Girl she has every Aryan feature there is except for the bleach blonde hair. I would know what someone with aryan features looks like since I am from Scandinavia.
