The annoying part is the Democrats could have released the files. They obviously had political motivations to incriminate him or at least severely damage his reputation, but it would seem like they are protecting other people on the list - whether for political, financial, personal reasons. 
 

And when I say Democrats, I mean top democrats like Nancy Pelosi who called the Epstein Files a distraction. Mike Johnson’s decision to shut down the house for the summer PROVES that there’s much more than just a distraction.

Ultimately it wouldn't have mattered, Trump would say the same things he's saying now but his base would actually believe him. As crazy as it seems, this is probably the only scenario where Trump actually loses supporters over it, because he's the only one keeping those files a secret now.
