I also feel that they are kitschier except for perhaps disease? Well actually, I guess Disease is not "kitsch" so much as it references kitsch in its horror, doctor/nurse affect (especially with the music video). Well, with the direct zombie/livingdead references in Zombieboy and The Dead Dance, they are definitely top Kitsch on the album, actually. I would agree.

The underlying kitsch influence on Disease, though, I live for! I love that song so much .... :wtfga:

Its more nuanced on Disease like Monster or Marry the Night but Zombieboy and Dead Dance are so in the face they’re almost parody of themselves but I lived for the Zombieboy snippet in the Disease video…

I was bopping to that Zombieboy snippet for months!  The chorus has such a weird dissonance in the melody in a way I love. Like somehow the whole thing feels a little bit off kilter, as is appropriate given the subject I might think.

I feel the full version chanting, "we about to be up all night, waking up for zombies, so put you paws all over me you zombieboy *you zombie boy*" doesn't serve the chorus well. It grounds the song too much in the setting of staying up all night maybe at a slumber party? The suggestion of a group of preteens staying up late is just not the vibe for me. I hold these verses at arms length :classy:

I feel the same way, the verses feel mismatched – the chorus is so groovy and infectious, and then the verses feel kinda Kidz Boppy

Her 13th Grammy was Best Traditional Pop Album. If you remove one word, she wins Best Pop Album. If you remove both, she wins AOTY. This magic number could indicate wins in her future....

If she wins Pop Vocal Album this year she’ll only be the 4th to win the category multiple times :classy:

The point is, kitsch stands out as being on the nose.

ARTPOP is very intentionally kitsch all the way through and it works favorably.

Mayhem would have a more cohesive and tightly edited track list ~without the kitsch of Zombieboy and Dead Dance, in my opinion.
