I will genuinely never understand why people insist on statements from pop stars on wars or genocide.

They all will forget after the first second of a ceasefire…

At least she'll be remember for it. Just like many others will be remembered for their silence. Again, nobody is expecting celebrities to do anything factual on the ground but what you said is like saying they stopped caring about gays once gay rights became a thing

Happy people with huge platforms start calling out the genocide just in time for it to become safe for them 🤗

What do you mean safe for them? The genocide is still happening and the number of Palestinians killed is nearing 60,000 while famine is spreading like crazy. Ceasefire talks keep getting messed up and no agreement has been reached so far.

They can't stop wars but they can tell the world about it.

Safe for the artist to be publicly against genocide without immediately getting "canceled" by the media

Was that ever even a risk to begin with?

The worst you'd get is some incel saying "they're antisemitic" and they're easily dismissed as idiots.

I feel like "people shouldn't be getting killed" is a pretty universally agreed upon statement.

If you have a platform you have a responsibility to use it. It's honestly that simple.

If you have an audience of tens of thousands, potentially millions, and you AREN'T using that to talk about things that matter? It's shameful imo

Ja, I kinda think there has been/still is some "risk" for artists - probably depending on the country tbf. From what I see no one really cares for traditional etiquette, moral standards or basic human decencies in the US, so a lot of things probably fly over there. Here in Europa you still don't really wanna ruffle any feathers. A lot of countries have some form of government funding involved with the culture sector (usually extra money for them, not necessarily life or death for artists or venues etc, but still, money is money). Just a few weeks ago we saw protests at Glastonbury, the bbc getting angry with the artists, resolving in them getting future concerts cancelled. The bbc is a separate story in of itself, but this kind of stuff is still happening 🤷🏼‍♀️

that being said, my queen Jessie Ware has been posting for almost two years now - so it is and has been possible 🥰

No it doesn't, I appreciate the sentiment but honestly why would being a pop star make you qualified to speak on anything but that? Not saying they can't but expecting or demanding it from them/condemning them for not doing it is just weird
