Yes, I agree completely. Meanwhile straight male artists & problematic people like Nicki Minaj get away with everything (notice how no one is outraged that Kendrick, Benson Boone, Nicki etc. haven't said anything). I don't even mean this in a whataboutism stan thing. High profile people often end up drawing a target on themselves by advocating for issues if they're not saying or handling things perfectly, and in a timely manner, whereas if you never did anything good in the first place, you're kind of allowed to do whatever without much complaint. It reminds me of the argument that occurred earlier in this thread: Mod rants a bit about the lack of activism by Gaga, then someone else comes along pointing out that they stan a man who had pedo allegations. If you are moral and vocal about one subject, people expect you to be moral and vocal about more, or all subjects tbh.

So, regarding this part, I think it's all about who you like that determines your expectations.

Kendrick and Benson don't really have any fans here and Barbs are quiet on GGD 'cause Nicki is fairly hated for one reason or another.

But Lana has stans and fans here, people care about what she says, doesn't say, or how she says it. So her post gets picked apart.

Like, I complain about Gaga's silence but does anyone think I would do that if I didn't have love and respect for her? If I didn't put value on her words and actions I wouldn't care what she did or didn't do :ladyhaha:

Lana, Gaga, they're valued here. So the debates and bickering get a little more heated than if we were talking about artists that are on none of our radars.

🌸Flourishing and vibrant🌼

Well she could’ve contributed by being vocal about this whole thing long time ago and not just now (knowing her influence she has).

Very true. Least she said something lol unlike a certain someone …who could that be? :huntyga: hmmm :flop:

anyway….Ariana, charli, even Katy perry :/, billie…and Lana and many more.

Honestly this is way more than I expected from her and way more than we got from most other celebrities and like others said these are just people not politicians they are powerless to end wars so... good for her, she took a stand at a time when no one else is brave enough to in the industry, and that's quite a lot from her considering how quiet she's been about politics for the last few years now :huntyga:

I wish culturally we can stop demanding celebrities to speak out because they have “influence”. They have little to zero influence on ending wars.

Demand it from your elected officials instead of asking for performative activism from your favourite celebs.

No, we need to put that argument to rest. If I’m spending time, and money on an artist that I truly enjoy…it helps to know they’re not a bigot, or a zionist. It’s not that hard to understand…

Is it expected? No. Gaga hasn’t said a word, and here I am.

It’s wild that you even need to explain this. :toofunny:

I like this person. It’d be cool if we shared opinions. It’s that simple.

She didn't sign the letter, but she was mentioned there among Rihanna, Paul McCartney and others who had concerts in Israel and CCFP supported them against the BDS.

That letter in 2022 was in support of an Israeli dance troupe at Sydney Festival that BDS pushed to boycott/remove from the festival and whoever signed it, saw it as attack against art.

But again, Gaga did not sign the letter, they name dropped her in an article ABOUT the letter.

As far as I can tell that was propaganda:

they included Rihanna and other celebrities that had visited, but they didn’t really sign anything (apparently).

It’s still so disappointing to see her staying silent on the genocide :/

The list included her name as of one of the signatories though.

That's how propaganda works :)

There are 2 versions of this press release, one from their official website, where they write "signature" and the other for the newspapers where they write "were supported".

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Shame on them always, and I mean if she really didn't sign the letter, that would be great tbh.

Lana Del Rey is married to a trump supporting transphobic racist, so I think her opinion is pretty irrelevant when you consider that she’s married to a man who’s openly supporting a president who’s funding/enabling a genocide. To be clear, regardless I do wish Gaga  would say something.

Of course I don’t think she would openly support or does support the killing of innocent people but it would be nice to know her stance.

That's exactly it. You don't want to get offed by saying something that irks the wrong people. Better to do your part behind the scenes than make yourself public enemy #1. I notice that it's mostly female celebrities who are being pressured to say something too, as if empathy is a solely female trait that men don't need to partake in. And absolutely controversial people get away with never bettering themselves. What incentive does anyone have to be nice in these conditions? I thought being nice made people give you more grace. No, we just end up bending over backwards to be liked and accepted, meanwhile, those who don't give an f are living their lives and getting a slap on the wrist for it and no one expects them to be nice because they never were in the first place. It's all upside down. Forcing someone to be empathetic is pointless. "Conform and do exactly what we say or be shunned" is hardly going to bring genuine feelings forth from anyone. Why do we want celebrities to speak up anyway? To give the illusion that something's being done for the better. But it's just a distraction from the horrors that civilians have no control over.
