LOVEDRUG

Something's better than nothing. She didn't use the word 'genocide' as many people want her to, but anything that draws attention and brings awareness to suffering on this scale is good, regardless of how hardline it is.

It's one of the main issues I have with mainstream leftist spaces (I'm a liberal rather than a leftist), pure 'letting perfect be the enemy of good'. Progress is slow, and it's better people make an imperfect stand than no stand at all.

I wish culturally we can stop demanding celebrities to speak out because they have “influence”. They have little to zero influence on ending wars.

Demand it from your elected officials instead of asking for performative activism from your favourite celebs.

I feel like this statement is only mentioned when it comes to stans trying to defend their faves for not speaking up and wanting to give them a pass. It’s just an excuse.

Good for her and any person with a platform that speaks out

There's no wrong way to do it

Don’t be scared and drop the names sis.

The reaction she is getting is why public figures say nothing, how do we know where she puts her money in terms of donations as well? That’s all assumption outside of her speaking on the issue which is more than many other celebs have done unfortunately.

i think when well intention celebs have something to say, then yeah sure i agree with you. but this is the same woman that released an album called chemtrails and wore a mesh mask during the height of the pandemic :rip:

this insane need for the perfectly politically correct statement is exactly how people like trump managed to gain power :fail:

things like downplaying gaga's grammy speech because it was "too short" and "only when she won" is just going to discourage actual allies :fail: why the hell should they help us if all people can do is criticise every tiny thing?

mother, what must i do?

I honestly couldn’t care less about what any celebs have to say tbh. Great, so and so posted this on social media. Now what? Did anything change? Did the war stop?

And why should anyone care about their opinion, though? What authority do they have? If they want to speak up, great. If they don’t, I really don’t care enough to ask them to say something. Many celebrities have stupid opinions anyway

They speak up and the internet tells them they’re speaking up too late. If they don’t speak up, then they’re complicit. It’s honestly exhausting how the internet is always demanding people to make a post about x y z war that’s going on. What is an instagram story going to do? Nothing. What did posting a black square on social media do? Nothing.

Stop giving celebrities so much credit and influence.

This is a false equivalency.

Every time Gaga's said something about real issues recently it's been adjacent to either her getting an award or her promoting her work. It makes her statements feel incidental.

"I'm here to talk about my new album Mayhem, but lemme also throw a bone to the gays"

"I'm here to tell you all about the new Haus Labs promo, but lemme also say I love the queer community so this promo is only for pride month"

"I'm here to accept this award for mine and Bruno's song but lemme also say trans people exist"

It's my biggest frustration with her lately. Maybe I'm just being cynical and someone else would say "well, she didn't have to mention the queer community at all but she tries to whenever she can" and that's a valid viewpoint but after her silence during the 2024 election it's just not one I personally believe anymore.

Anyway, Lana just said this with no other motive, no other real goal, other than to remind people that it's happening and put out hopes for a positive solution in the future.

Nobody expects celebrities to solve the world's problems but when you have a platform it's important to use it for the right causes.

Keeping the genocide in Gaza fresh in people's minds is a good thing. People can criticize how she does it but at least she does it.

She could do more, we all could.

🌸Flourishing and vibrant🌼

This

Y'all need to shut up and give her a break. I know she's coming from a good place. In 2017, she cancelled a gig in Israel following BDS calls and said she won't perform in the region UNLESS she can perform for Palestinians as well. At least she knows and recognizes the sh*t Palestinians are going through and the fact that she took the time to write a post about it and not just a 'pray4Gaza' hashtag story or something, says a lot about her.

THAT and she never advertised herself as being a human rights advocate, unlike others.

And yes, I'm shading Gaga here. Literally her silence is ridiculous and disappointing. I know the solution isn't up to her and won't free Palestine anytime soon but the way she ignored it given how much a spoken artist she is (or was?) is just very unsettling

Them saying something is beyond than just a word or a post. The celebrities are Hollywood puppets and y'all know that and know Hollywood is mostly entirely Zionist so them saying something Zionists don't like is showing how brave they are to stand up against the unjust system. I do understand some of them shutting up because some of them are so powerful they can influence the public opinion if they say something, and imagine if they said something Hollywood doesn’t approve of, it can end their careers just like that.

I'm fine with them not saying sh*t, but don't promote yourselves are some sort of human rights advocates and warriors because you know don't treat humans equally, you're not really advocating for sh*t.

ya'll defending a republican Israeli lover just because she gave a half baked ChatGPT statement about gaza, just to get away from a backlash, and somehow Gaga is the blame for everything, hilarious :Cautious:

Backlash from what exactly? It's been almost 2 years since the genocide began, even Arabs don't care anymore.

Why would she be scared of her fans? :smh: Gaga gets asked this question on her IG posts all the time and she doesn't give a **** obviously.

She literally said 'pray for Palestine' and just like I mentioned above, she's at least informed of the situation and it has been that way since she cancelled her gig in Israel. So I'll take it.

I don't expect any of the pop girls or celebrities (unless you're Marcia Cross or Susan Sarandson) to dedicate their pages to Palestine or go to protests, but someone with apparent influence on her fans can make a difference.

If it wasn't important, it wouldn't cause all this fuss.
