Tiktok Prepares New App To Replace Itself Exclusive For US users In 2026

TikTok is building a new version of its app for users in the United States ahead of a planned sale of the app to a group of investors, The Information reported on Sunday, citing unnamed sources.

This comes as U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he will start talking to China on Monday or Tuesday about a possible TikTok deal.

TikTok has developed a plan to launch the new app to U.S. app stores on September 5, the report said.

Last month, Trump extended to September 17 a deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest the U.S. assets of TikTok.

The report added that TikTok users will eventually have to download the new app to be able to continue using the service, although the existing app will work until March of next year, though the timeline could change.

TikTok is actively developing a new version of its app for U.S. users, internally designated "M2", ahead of a planned sale of its U.S. operations. This new app is expected to launch on September 5th and will eventually replace the current TikTok app, which will cease functioning in March 2026, according to The Information. This move is part of a larger strategy to address ongoing data security concerns and comply with U.S. regulations. The potential sale of TikTok's U.S. operations to a group of non-Chinese investors, including Oracle, is still pending Chinese government approval.

Besides, if it’s true that they’re developing a new app, it’s in their best interest to kill TikTok off and prevent it from being future competition.
