Albania and Italy share an EEZ border in the Adriatic, both countries were part of the Roman and Byzantine Empire, the Albanian coast was influenced by Italy due to the presence of the Venetian Republic there, which left Italian words in the vocabulary of Albanian and Italian-inspired architecture in the coastal towns, Fascist Italy fully occupied Albania and incorporated it into their expansions plans, parts of Albania are Catholic majority so naturally aligned with the Vatican, Albania is home to a significant yet declining Aromanian population, that have Romanian/Latin roots, likewise South Italy is home to a historically important minority of Albanians that emigrated to Italy after the Ottoman conquest of the Balkans. All in all, Albania is more a Balkan country preoccupied with its immediate continental neighbourhood (Greece, North Macedonia, ex-Yugoslavia etc), but some historical ties with Italy exist.🙆‍♀️

I mean, Rita Ora (who was born to Albanian parents) and Lady Gaga (who was born to Italian parents) are basically the same iconic pop queen legends so I can see why this man would say this.
