WASHINGTON, June 27 (Reuters) - U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem will end deportation protections for half a million Haitians, the latest move by the Trump administration to strip migrants of legal status as it ramps up deportations.

Noem, who shortened the duration of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for some 521,000 Haitians earlier this year, will terminate the status on September 2, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said.

I mean...human rights atrocities aside, it's literally not financially feasible to deport this many people.

Also relies on the home nations accepting them.

And Haiti doesn't really have a functional state currently

The fact that SCOTUS ruled in favor of deportations to third countries is, although unsurprising, still completely ****ing disgusting. How is it not cruel and unusual punishment to dump someone in the middle of Libya for committing a civil offense?!

I genuinely cannot fathom what the US will look like in four years. At this rate, it will be completely unrecognizable.

Real tbh. Between the immunity ruling and the national injunction ruling, they’re clearly enemies of the rule of law so tea, frankly

This. It's probably really expensive. He's spending a fortune on these mass deportation thing, the ICE thing, etc. And logically with less workers, and less consumption, economy will take a hit of some kind I'd assume.

Even if I was just a cold-hearted citicizen who cared only about numbers benefitting the majority... I really don't see how this benefits any demographic, financially. Even the economic group, I would assume they rely on cheap immigrant labor, this does not even benefit them; Musk was fighting on Twitter about WANTING MORE immigrants, for that specific reason, just months ago :air:

So even if we completely ignore the human element, this is entirely cosmetic, and will not help "white americans" in any capacity either. Not fiancially at least, it's all an emotion-driven gimmick to... please his racist voters I guess, and distract from the fact that he has no economic plan I suppose :laughga:

Let's see how long it takes for his voters to understand they've been conned again, if they do so at all, cause this is not very sustainable. A new war for no reason, millions in mass deportation fees, a pile of diplomatic conflicts for no reason with China, Canada, the Middle East, etc, all of which can sink US economy, I don't see how can he sustain this for long before it inevitably collapses on his voter's faces :huntyga:. I can only assume he doesn't care, because he knows HE won't be affected on a personal level, but his voters will surely feel it soon enough, this is objectively a political disaster :icant:

They’d rather spend money on deporting people than feeding children lunch at school.

It is cruel but they don’t see these “illegals” as people.

They won't care. We are currently in a political era where voters have developed an aversion to controversy and scandal. Look at what happened in NYC. Someone as disgusting and vile as Andrew Cuomo had no business running for Mayor in that primary; yet, the party was backing him and he amassed around like what 36-38% of the vote in the primary. We all know very well what happened on January 6th, 2021 and even agnostic of all that, the felonies Trump was convicted and found guilty of, people still said "ehh I don't care about that because he's going to fix the economy". All that to say that what we're dealing with is a fully brainwashed cult collective that has been duped into believing that even at their lowest point, in order to be more the people they hate have to be less than them at all times. And ultimately they'll just somehow pin this on Biden or Obama because that's the narrative they're constructed.
