ICE Directed To Pause Activities In Farm, Hotels, & Restaurants

The Trump administration has directed Immigration and Customs Enforcement to halt arrests at farms, restaurants and hotels amid concerns that the president's crackdown on illegal immigration is hurting key industries, two sources familiar with the abrupt policy change told CBS News.

The pause on worksite immigration enforcement operations applies to the agricultural, hospitality and restaurant industries, which rely in large part on labor from immigrants, many of whom are in the U.S. unlawfully, the sources said, requesting anonymity to discuss internal actions.

The scaling back of some ICE operations reflects increased concern among industry leaders that the Trump administration's aggressive and government-wide immigration crackdown was hindering their businesses and the broader U.S. economy by spooking their workforce.

It also marks a significant pivot for the Trump administration, which has vowed to deport millions of immigrants living in the country without legal status, regardless of whether they have criminal histories. And it comes amid a vast expansion in immigration arrests across the U.S. that has triggered protests against ICE activity in major American cities, including Los Angeles, where President Trump has deployed the National Guard and U.S. Marines in response to instances of violence.

Asked about the catalyst for the sudden decision to limit ICE enforcement, one of the sources said the president was not aware of the scale of the agency's operations.

"Once it hit him, he pulled it back," the source said.

Mr. Trump appeared to preview the policy change during a White House event earlier in the week, describing an upcoming "order" to protect farms and hotels relying on immigrant workers.

"We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have, maybe not," Mr. Trump said, adding later, "We can't do that to our farmers. And leisure, too. Hotels. We're gonna have to use a lot of common sense on that."

Asked about the move, Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said, "We will follow the President's direction and continue to work to get the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens off of America's streets."

The New York Times first reported the move.

jacs vs looser

He literally just posted on his social network that they must expand efforts to detain and deport in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. Cities he cites are "the core of the Democratic center".

He completely defies logic in every way.  You either want illegal immigrants out or you don’t.  You can’t cherry pick, fool.

So basically he’s saying we know there is undocumented workers here, but we won’t actually deport. But we will find them in other areas that won’t be bad for the economy… lol these people are so stupid.

Basically admitting the US economy depends on immigrant labor that can be exploited.

If you deport them all you tank the economy.

It sounds bad but the reality is a capitalistic hellhole like the US can’t survive unless someone is being exploited and used for cheap labor.

Granting immigrants a legal pathway to citizenship is what should be happening to keep our workforce.

He doesn't want illegal immigrants out lol

Texas arguably has more "illegals" than LA, NYC, Chicago, etc and there are a lot here in Florida too. But sewing chaos in red states doesn't benefit him.

Turning blue states upside down while providing a distraction for his second enormous transfer of wealth to the top 0.1% is all he wants.

Chaos and greed. That's the MAGA way.

Whimsical bitch
