Sabrina Carpenter In Scalding Hot Oil After Degrading Imagery On Her Upcoming Album

I think she is lame, and all of her material is man-centered, but she as an artist has the right to express herself however she wants. She is not glamorizing domestic violence, she's making fun of herself, and her own behaviour when it comes to dating.

It's a metaphor, it's not literal :huntyga:. If she is boy-crazy, and feels self-aware about it, the logical thing is for her to express that in her music. Art is meant to express that which one feels, and it isn't exclusive to girlboss empowering feelings.

You can feel like an insecure höe (Charli on "Girl So Confusing), or like a doormat (Sabrina in all of her songs), and it is ok for you to express that. Art is not supposed to always be politically correct and nice.

I mean, as a woman I don’t like it. And I don’t find it feminist at all. But then it’s just an album cover by some pop star I don’t listen to so

How is it not Feminist? Do you even know what Feminism mean?

The thing that bothers me most about it all is the ideia of dominance which we all have seen through humanity history since forever and it never ends well.

I got myself watching a ig reel about puppies having a little fight over food the other day and the comments were all speaking of one of them dominance attitude, then I kept myself (as a person who was abused and neglected as a kid) thinking like, why everything has to be about dominance when in reality we (me at least and maybe some other ppl) just want to have our space respected instead of getting power over somebody else? And humans still want to transfer the same idea to other animals just because we feel like it when it’s clear that it’s actually all about respect or, if anything and in other cases, about leadership which is totally different than dominance.

I think it’s fine when you’re kinky or whatever you wanna do on your intimacy because at the end of the day, nobody’s has nothing to do with your choices unless they’re paying your bills, but thing is, when it comes to public specially in such delicate times like this, artists - whose have the most influence over general people after those miserable politicians - should think better about the choices and implications of making those decisions.

I don’t think a picturing a woman being dominated at this point is actually a good idea tbh, even for setting up a statement unless if you’re able to make a real sense of it. Otherwise is that thing, the first impression is the one that will be kept.

and edit: just to be clear my thoughts have nothing to do with feminism or activism btw specially because I can’t stand the way everything about it gets so trendy and overused by new generations nowadays. It’s just a point of view from my own perspective and life experiences.

Literally dominating someone is different from consensual sexual power play, and it doesnt seem like you understand the difference. And then you say its okay for women to have sexual kinks, but they should not express it in public. Then you say because Andrew Tate exists, women should not express themselves sexually.

Do you have any idea how insane these arguments are?

Not a fan of the cover. Mainly because of the hair pulling and the second picture - dog. It does give an image of deragatory than "being submissive for love" (if this is what she is going for)

I feel like so many of them, also, have just become insanely neurotic because of online mental health speak and feel the need to pathologize everything (everything’s a trauma response or undiagnosed autism or ADHD) to the point that nothing can exist in a grey area, everything has to be clearly, nearly, and correctly defined otherwise is it’s wrong in someway (and so ambiguous self-objectification and/or satire of misogyny? That’s a no-no). Generational OCD teas.

It is also media illiteracy :air:. Gen-Z seems incapable of comprehending context, subtext, and metaphors, they are extremely literal in their interpretation of creative work. Which is a greater offence, if we consider the fact that they are the generation with the most exposure, and access to, different media content, in human history.

🩷 Sabrina Carpenter takes a photo submitting to a man = "She MUST be glamorizing domestic violence, she hates women!".

🖤 Lady GaGa makes a music video using a wheelchair = "She's glamorizing disabilities, she hates disabled people!".

🩷 Lady GaGa gets vomited onstage = "She is glamorizing bulimia, she hates people with eating disorders!".

I can tolerate the concept of being perpetually offended by everything to a degree, but at the absolute very least, you should understand what is it that you're getting offended about :huntyga:. I do think this approach actively benefited the rise of far right movements in the west. It made the idea of "progressiveness" and "whining" indistinguishable for the masses, and made kindness and empathy seem off-putting by association.

But I'm getting off-topic :icant:

She will still won't make it if she never opens for Taylor Swift' The Eras tour, that's the real reason. The same with Gracie Abrams. Her fans listens to them and vibe with them as the result. Which also why their streaming and sales numbers are kinda crazy after that. You can take a look around, majority for their stans are also Taylor stans first.

That’s true. She started racking up some numbers with Nonesense, but opening up to Taylor was the biggest push that put her in the map

Im a Feminist in a philosophical sense, but Feminism is not a philosophy. Feminism is a social-political movement, and I dont want to join any political-social movements or be part of a group. Most groups (even good ones) are limited and stagnant.

Honestly this, ironically, is showing that the alt-right is winning the war on sexual liberation. The pushing of boundaries with sex publicly has for DECADES been a part of activism. "Activists" shaming this is literally letting the alt-right win.

I dont think this is an indication of the alt right winning anything, its just an indication that provocative imagery works.

The imagery also makes me uncomfortable because she is likening herself to a dog judging by that pose and the title being "mans best friend" along with the other cover just being a dog. It can clearly come off as self degrading which can be difficult to see.

I dont think it should spark this much discourse though because i know its  probably going to be an artist interpretation in the music.

This is not even something new for a mpg, granted this is not an album cover but the imagery is pretty much the same, people just love be outraged now :reductive: Don't y'all love to say Madonna opened the doors for all the pop girls? Apparently, the doors are just half open. :huntyga:

God forbid a girl wanting to express herself how she wants without having others calling her own choices misogyny or degrading. :saladga:

Bu1-TmyCYAAQvV9.jpg

The thing is, Madonna's cover doesn't have any type of act that could be seen as violence. Sabrina's cover does. You guys saying "oh he's barely grabbing her hair", are you guys blind?

I don't care if you like it or not, I don't have an opinion Sabrina's cover. Art is subjective, so if someone that has experienced something that looks exactly like the cover, they'll link their experience to what they are seeing (Ex: the first tweet in the OP). I think that the cover represents she likes to be treated inferior when she's having s*x (it's a pretty common thing to like feeling like that when doing it).

it’s giving Lana’s GQ vibes.

and it’s not her problem that “young audiences” have access to her content. Parents need to parent.

This reminds me of the thesis statement of DWUW and a lot of ARTPOP in a way because she is 'degrading' herself (not really imo) but she is in control of it. To me it feels like she's somewhat flipping misogyny on its head by playing with and manipulating its imagery. Not everyone is able to get that.
